👀 The Payroll Product team at Shine

We are a small, ambitious, and close-knit product and tech team building modern payroll software for the Dutch market. Our product team consists of seven people: three backend engineers, two frontend engineers, a product designer, and a product manager, all working remotely in a highly collaborative environment. We are entering a new phase focused on building the best modern payroll solution in The Netherlands: a complex SaaS product with challenging domain logic, scalability challenges, and plenty of interesting technical problems to solve.

Building payroll software means turning complexity into simplicity. That is the challenge and also what makes the work rewarding. You will contribute to major projects and initiatives that directly impact more than 7,000 companies already using our platform, a number that continues to grow, while becoming an important part of the future of our product.

You will work alongside dedicated payroll experts in a lean and agile environment where decisions are made quickly and ownership is real. Your contribution will be highly visible, and you will directly see the impact of your work on both the product and our customers.

As a product and tech team, we work remote-first with a strong focus on flexibility and collaboration. If you live in or around Amsterdam, we also offer the opportunity to work from our Amsterdam office, mainly on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Our product manager and other team members including colleagues from marketing and support also regularly work from the office, making it a great place for collaboration and product discussions.

📋 Your Role as a .Net Software Engineer

To support the next phase of our growth, we are looking for an experienced .NET Software Engineer to help us further scale and strengthen our platform.

As a backend engineer, you will play an important role in both building new features and improving the foundation of our existing software. We are looking for someone who can make the right trade-offs between pragmatism, delivery speed, and long-term scalability.

The ideal candidate will provide a crucial balance of essential development principles:

  • Pragmatism: Ensuring solutions are practical, maintainable, and aligned with business goals.

  • Development Speed: Maintaining a high velocity of delivery without sacrificing code quality.

  • Scalability Expertise: Introducing and championing architectural patterns and solutions that ensure our platform can handle significant growth and increased load efficiently.

You will have a direct influence on our technical direction, development process, and product evolution, primarily focused on .NET development within a complex payroll domain.

As an experienced Software Engineer, you’re passionate about building robust and sustainable solutions. Your strong communication skills allow you to articulate complex technical ideas into outcomes, making you an invaluable link within team and across the wider business.

You thrive in an environment where a hands-on, execution-focused approach is key, and you champion agile principles to deliver value quickly and effectively. Experience with Continuous Integration/Deployment (CI/CD) is second nature, enabling the team to maintain a smooth and efficient development lifecycle. Day-to-day, your creativity will be crucial as you contribute to the development, prototyping, and ideation of significant system enhancements. This is a team that values innovation and continuous improvement.

You will actively optimise our current services and develop critical integrations with our partners, directly impacting our business reach and efficiency. We are looking for someone who is excited about researching and implementing new technologies, and with an appetite for continued growth,

While not essential, you might also have experience with Domain-Driven Design (DDD) or Angular, bringing an extra dimension to our technical discussions. Perhaps you have a background or strong interest in mathematics or data science, or a keen eye for DevOps tooling and customer-focused UX/UI principles. Above all, you are a collaborative problem-solver ready to make a tangible impact.

Must-Have:

  • Proven and sustained experience with C#/ .NET Core

  • Strong communication skills with fluency in English

  • Experience with Continuous Integration/Deployment (CI/CD)

  • A hands-on approach to task execution

  • Collaborative with the ability to work within a small, tight knit team and cross functionally at a business/group level

  • Agile principles over agile frameworks

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with Domain-Driven Design (DDD)

  • Experience with Angular

  • Devops Tooling

  • Customer focused, User focused: UX/UI
