Founding AI & Data Engineer

Salary Competitive

Fortifai is building the next generation of AI-powered regulatory governance infrastructure.

Organizations today manage governance and compliance across spreadsheets, documents, and disconnected tools. Fortifai helps companies structure policies, controls, documentation, training, and audits across frameworks such as ISO, ESG, privacy, and governance regulation in one centralized platform.

The product is already live with enterprise customers. Our next phase focuses on building the AI and data infrastructure that turns fragmented regulatory information into structured, usable systems.

The Role

This is a builder role first.

The majority of your time will be spent writing production code, building AI pipelines, and developing the data infrastructure that powers Fortifai’s intelligence layer.

You will work closely with the CEO and existing engineering team, helping shape how the AI and data function evolves as the company grows.

Our core platform runs primarily on a .NET/C# backend stack. Your focus will be building the AI and data layer, integrating with the existing platform through well-designed APIs and services.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building systems from the ground up, solving messy data problems, and shipping practical AI features that solve real product challenges.

The Core Technical Problem

Compliance today lives in messy, unstructured information: regulatory texts, policies, reports, spreadsheets, and documents scattered across systems.

Fortifai’s goal is to convert this into structured regulatory data that machines can reason over.

You will build the AI pipelines and data infrastructure that extract, structure, and operationalize that information — enabling automation, analysis, and intelligent workflows.

What You’ll Build

AI Systems & Intelligence Layer

  • Build AI pipelines that extract structured information from unstructured regulatory documents.

  • Implement LLM-powered capabilities for document parsing, regulatory mapping, policy classification, and compliance analysis.

  • Design and maintain RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) systems and vector search infrastructure.

  • Evaluate and integrate modern AI tooling — LLM APIs, document intelligence services, and AI-assisted development tools.

  • Identify where AI can reduce manual compliance work and implement those capabilities directly in the product.

Data Architecture & Compliance Data Layer

  • Design the core data model that structures policies, controls, regulatory requirements, evidence, and ownership into a unified system.

  • Build the compliance data layer that converts fragmented documents and regulatory text into structured, queryable data.

  • Implement data pipelines that transform unstructured inputs into structured compliance knowledge.

  • Ensure strong standards for data integrity, lineage, and auditability, which are essential in governance systems.

  • Build systems that allow AI models to reason over structured regulatory data rather than raw documents.

Engineering & Platform Integration

  • Build AI and data services that integrate cleanly with the existing platform via APIs.

  • Collaborate closely with backend engineers working on the .NET platform.

  • Contribute to system architecture discussions and help maintain reliable, scalable engineering practices.

  • Maintain strong engineering standards across testing, documentation, and code quality.

What We're Looking For

Core Experience

  • 5–8+ years of software engineering experience with strong hands-on development.

  • Proven experience building AI-powered features in production systems.

  • Strong proficiency in Python, particularly for data pipelines and AI integration.

  • Experience designing systems that structure unstructured data into usable models.

  • Experience working in cloud environments, ideally Microsoft Azure.

  • Comfortable working in startup or fast-moving product environments.

  • A builder mindset — you prefer shipping real systems over theoretical design.

Strong Plus

  • Experience integrating Python AI services with non-Python platforms.

  • Familiarity with LLMs, embeddings, vector search, and RAG architectures.

  • Experience with document processing or knowledge extraction systems.

  • Exposure to compliance, legal, or regulatory technology domains.

Technology Stack

  • AI / Data Python · LLM APIs · Vector search · Document intelligence

  • Platform .NET / C#

  • Frontend React

  • Cloud Microsoft Azure

  • Infrastructure Pulumi · Azure DevOps · Git

  • Data SQL / NoSQL databases
