Build the engineering and AI foundation of a global accounting platform

Sanna is building a new kind of accounting firm - one designed for a world where AI can automate the manual work that has defined the industry for decades.

Our goal is simple: challenge how accounting works globally by rebuilding it from the core. We combine AI, software, and human expertise to create systems that are reliable, scalable, and trusted. We aren’t just building an AI wrapper; we are replacing manual labor with production systems that accountants and businesses can rely on.

We are now hiring a Principal Engineer to work at the core of the product, shaping the foundation that automates accounting and operational workflows.

About the job and why it matters

Much of accounting today is still manual or semi-automated. You’ll help decide when AI adds value, when deterministic rules are better, and when human-in-the-loop workflows are necessary.

The choices you make here will directly shape the accuracy, reliability, and scalability of our platform. This is a hands-on leadership role: you’ll tackle complex problems end-to-end (from frontend interfaces to backend systems) and set the technical foundation for the future of accounting at Sanna.

• Build and evolve core systems powering accounting automation, including user-facing interfaces

• Design AI-powered, rule-based, and hybrid workflows to replace manual processes

• Balance accuracy, reliability, performance, and cost in production AI systems

• Improve platform foundations: data flows, abstractions, observability, testing, and reliability

• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and accountants to turn workflows into scalable systems

• Own complex problems from design through production and iteration

Who we're looking for

• You don’t need to tick every box - depth in some areas, ownership, and ability to learn quickly matter more than years or titles.

• Experienced principal engineer or tech lead building production SaaS platforms

• Deep expertise in TypeScript (bonus: Effect.ts) and PostgreSQL, comfortable across the full stack

• Experience with production systems involving LLMs, document processing, or AI-driven workflows

• Pragmatic judgment: when to use AI vs deterministic rules vs human review

• Strong engineering judgment in high-accuracy, high-trust domains where mistakes matter

• Clear communicator who can reason through ambiguity and make sound trade-offs

• Curious and eager to question assumptions and continuously improve
