Senior UX Designer

Salary Competitive

At Oda, we develop affordable grocery services to make the logistics of living surprisingly easy. First we built Norway’s leading online grocery store, and now, partnered with Mathem in Sweden, we’re on our way to becoming the world’s most effective retail system, delivering to thousands of Scandinavian doorsteps every week.

We’re looking for a Senior UX Designer to join our Shop team at Oda!

Others call it super senior, lead-level, or staff (we’re not title folk), we are looking for a designer with some solid years of experience who still loves being an individual contributor and working hands on, to help create an even better user experience for Oda and Mathem’s customers.

You’ll join our Design discipline, and your start will be embedded with our 27-member Shop team, who is responsible for everything customer-facing in the Oda and Mathem services: the apps, webshop, marketing tools, notifications, payment, accounts, and customer service. We also touch on the tooling behind the scenes that makes this possible. It’s a huge domain responsibility, but it means we can truly design holistically, end-to-end, as we should.

With 27 people in Shop, not everyone works on the same thing at the same time. Instead, we form smaller cross-functional groups around different initiatives. You will be part of identifying such product initiatives as well as making sure we design and implement something that solves the initial need, combining product sense, strategic leadership with hands-on UX design. You’ll work closely with developers, data folks, and other designers, as well as collaborate closely with stakeholders such as Commercial or Growth, to align needs, manage expectations, and drive outcomes.

What You’ll Be Doing 🚀

  • Strategic design: Contribute to product strategy, and identify opportunities for impact. Consider how our product choices support user needs as well as company goals, commercial needs and growth plans, and be part of identifying new initiatives.

  • Lead big projects from start to finish: Take ownership of projects from the initial idea through concept, design, prototyping, implementation and testing, working closely with product managers, developers, other team members and potential stakeholders in other parts of the company. With your experience, you should be able to take on some of our biggest projects, particularly those that require collaboration across teams.

  • Hands on UX design: Design customer-facing experiences for web and mobile that help make life easier for Scandinavian families - ordering weekly groceries, discovering new products, managing accounts, and getting deliveries smoothly. Create clear and usable interfaces within our design system.

  • User research: Conduct customer interviews and usability tests to make sure we are actually solving customer problems.

  • Collaborate across teams and disciplines: Work closely with other parts of the company, like Commercial, Growth, Delivery or Strategy, depending on the project, as well as product, design, and engineering.

  • Coach and foster culture: Act as a sparring partner for other designers, lead design critiques, and share your domain knowledge to help others grow.

What you’ll need to succeed 🌟

  • Really strong product sense. You can translate company and product strategy into clear design direction, make trade-offs with confidence, shape initiatives, and articulate the why behind design decisions to stakeholders at all levels.

  • Project leadership experience, leading cross-functional product teams, collaborating closely with developers.

  • Really strong and up to date interaction design and service design skills. Experience with shipping, not just concepts or innovation initiatives.

  • Ability to use an existing design system to get to shippable UI. You don’t have to be a pixel-perfectionist, but you should be ready and able to create UIs that developers can actually implement.

  • Comfortable setting up and running a customer research project from start to finish, in Norwegian or Swedish.

  • Ability to communicate design decisions clearly to stakeholders and developers, and create alignment across teams.

What would be nice to have 💡

  • 10+ years of experience designing user experiences for web and mobile platforms.

  • Fluency in Norwegian or Swedish in order to conduct customer interviews and usability tests, as well as to understand the text in our products. Our working language is English.

What we offer 🚀

  • A chance to make a real impact as a UX Designer in a fast-moving company, working on a product people love, with a business model aligned with sustainability

  • Teammates who aim high and have each other’s backs. We care about people, and that means supporting each other every step of the way.

  • A strong product-driven culture with our own way of working

  • A flat structure where we team up across disciplines to solve exciting challenges. Big ideas come from everywhere!

  • A modern way of working. Slack, Google Docs and Meet, Linear, Figma.

  • A buzzing office at Tøyen, with lunch made by our very own chefs. 🧑‍🍳

  • A chance to shape the future of grocery shopping while building a company that’s here to stay.

Our goal is to create the world's most efficient retail system. Through smart work, passionate customer focus and our own technology we make a difference in the lives of thousands of customers and change society for the better through a completely re-imagined value chain for grocery shopping.
