We’re looking for an experienced Staff Engineer, Software Architect to join our software engineering team at IQM Quantum Computers.

Our software department designs, develops, and maintains the software stack for our on-premise quantum computer products — Spark and Radiance — as well as our cloud solution, Resonance. Learn more about our products here.
Our current tech stack includes Python, C++, Rust, Docker, GitLab, and Linux.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need a strong background in professional software development and architecture design across multiple product domains. We’re looking for someone who leads through collaboration, confident in guiding architectural discussions, while staying hands-on with the codebase as an active member of the development team.

You’ll be part of a distributed team located in Espoo and Munich, collaborating closely online. Strong communication and teamwork skills, both in-person and remotely, are highly valued.

What you'll be doing:

  • Designing, developing, and leading the architecture of software features and releases within our software stack.
  • Refining product requirements in close collaboration with Product Management and other stakeholders.
  • Writing clean, high-quality, high-performance code that’s a joy to maintain.
  • Reviewing code, performing tests, and contributing to documentation.
  • Collaborating with other IQM teams, including those with backgrounds in software engineering and quantum physics.

What we’re looking for: 

  • Proven experience with software technology roadmaps and architectural design across multiple teams.
  • Track record in developing and maintaining software products throughout their full lifecycle, from prototype to sunset.
  • Proficiency in several programming languages and technology stacks, with a passion for continuous learning.
  • Experience in productized API design, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Background in software domains with defined timing and performance requirements.
  • MSc or BSc in Computer Science, Physics, or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.
  • 10+ years of experience in software development. 

Nice to have:

  • Experience in compiler development.
  • Experience in database design, development, and maintenance.
