The Role

As Lead Backend Engineer, you will:

• Own the architecture and development of our Python/Django + FastAPI services

• Lead by example, mentoring developers and enforcing best practices in code quality, security, and maintainability

• Redesign critical systems to make customer onboarding <2 months (currently 6+)

• Collaborate closely with product, DevOps, and frontend teams to ship improvements fast

• Drive architectural decisions for performance, scalability, and fault-tolerance

• Backend: Python 3, Django, FastAPI

• Data: PostgreSQL, Redis, Celery

• APIs: GraphQL (Graphene), REST

• Infra: Docker, gunicorn, Bitbucket Pipelines (CI/CD)

• Hosting: Hetzner (Germany & Finland) – private networking & load balancing

You Bring

• 5+ years backend development experience (Python/Django preferred)

• Proven track record of building and scaling production systems

• Strong experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL or similar)

• Confidence in Docker, CI/CD, and modern dev pipelines

• Leadership skills — mentoring, architectural calls, guiding teams

• Pragmatic mindset focused on security, performance, and clean design

• Bonus: FastAPI, GraphQL, SaaS platforms, public sector software experience
