The Banking team at Shine
The Banking domain is responsible for accounts, payments, cards, ledger, compliance flows, and the architecture that powers all financial operations. The mission: build a single, unified banking experience across four markets, on a new in-house core banking engine.
We now seek an Engineering Director who combines technical depth, organizational leadership, and regulated-environment judgment — someone able to drive migration, scale teams, and deliver safely in a high-complexity environment.
Your role as Engineering Director of Banking reporting to the VP of Engineering, you will be accountable for the technical integrity, regulatory readiness, and long-term scalability of Shine’s banking systems.
Lead and mentor 7+ Engineering Managers and 40+ engineers across multiple locations
Own the engineering vision for our core banking domain: ledger, posting engine, payments orchestration, cards, KYC/AML, reconciliation, and market-specific adapters
Guide architectural decisions and challenge trade-offs with senior engineers and Staff Engineers
Partner closely with Product, Design, Compliance, Risk, and Operations to ensure alignment across markets
Strengthen engineering excellence: design principles, reliability, observability, incident response, and secure-by-design practices
Build a cohesive, inclusive culture across previously independent banking stacks
Ensure Shine is audit-ready at all times (PSD2, SCA, AML/KYC, SEPA, local regulators)
In Your First 12 Months, You Will Focus On
Building trust with the Banking teams and engineering leadership
Delivering a high-confidence migration plan from legacy BaaS systems to the new core banking engine
Establishing clear architectural guidelines, domain boundaries, and integration patterns
Aligning with Compliance and Risk to ensure regulatory correctness across all markets
Launching the new banking engine in our core markets
Improving operational excellence (SLOs, incident management, on-call, reliability culture)
Driving transparency, alignment, and crisp execution across EMs and cross-functional partners
Leading the engineering dimension of the merger between Banking and Accounting/Invoices
