Site Development & Engineering Intern

Salary Competitive

Are you a student with a passion for solar energy and eager to gain hands-on experience in the clean energy transition?

Fantastic – welcome to Alight! We're a fast-growing scale-up with a bold purpose: to kick carbon off the grid by helping businesses save money with solar — and now also storage — from day one. As one of Europe’s leading solar IPPs, we’re expanding our team and offering a unique internship opportunity in our Site Development team in Finland.

That’s where you come in. As our Site Development & Engineering Intern, you’ll support the development of solar projects in Finland and gain experience across technical, commercial, and regulatory aspects of project development. You’ll work closely with our local team and collaborate cross-functionally with teams across Europe.

This is a paid, part-time internship (16 hours/week), based in Helsinki with flexibility to work remotely.

Your impact

This internship is designed to give you a broad understanding of what it takes to develop solar projects from the ground up. You’ll contribute to project evaluations, support market research, and assist with site-specific tasks — helping shape the future of solar in Finland.

What you’ll do

  • Assist the team in evaluating new solar project opportunities — both in-house and acquisitions

  • Support landowner and stakeholder interactions, including authorities and consultants

  • Review and update project documentation (e.g. agreements, permits, reports)

  • Contribute to layout designs and PV placement using PV design tools

  • Analyze project feasibility using LCOE and IRR modelling

  • Research market trends and competitor activity

  • Prepare presentations and internal reports.

We’re looking for you

You’re currently studying Engineering (or a related field) and want to apply your academic knowledge to real-world projects in the renewable energy sector. You’re detail-oriented, curious, and proactive — and ready to grow your skills with a supportive, mission-driven team.

Must-haves:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or similar

  • Proficiency in Excel and strong analytical skills

  • Excellent communication skills in English and Finnish

  • Passion for renewable energy and sustainability

  • Highly organised and eager to learn

Nice-to-haves:

  • Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS)

  • Experience with PVdesign or similar solar design tools

What's in it for you

You will be part of an entrepreneurial scale-up in a flat, coaching, and knowledge-driven culture with a high degree of autonomy and accountability. • Paid internship (16h/week) for a minimum of 6 months

  • Hybrid setup: work from our Helsinki office or remotely

  • Real-world experience in solar project development

  • Exposure to technical, commercial, and regulatory workstreams

  • Mentorship from experienced professionals in the energy sector

  • A fun, mission-driven team environment with regular activities and events

Other things we want you to know

  • Our office is located at Mikonkatu 9 in central Helsinki

Alight

At Alight, we’re on a mission to kick carbon off the grid by helping energy-intensive businesses switch to solar. We develop, own and operate onsite and offsite solar projects across Europe and sell the clean energy to businesses at a low, fixed cost backed by a power purchase agreement (PPA), always independent of government funding or subsidies. By 2030, we aim to have an installed capacity of at least 5 GW, paving the way for a more sustainable future.
