We're Hiring: Accounting Lead

Hem is looking for a hands-on and proactive Accounting Lead to take the helm of our day-to-day financial operations. This is a key role in our finance team — you'll oversee everything from monthly closings and VAT filings to payroll coordination and cash flow planning.

What you’ll do

As the Accounting Lead, you’ll be the go-to person for all things accounting. On a monthly basis, you’ll lead the closing process for our two companies (a Swedish AB and a US Inc), making sure every krona and dollar is accounted for. You’ll prepare our financial statements and support the development of our monthly management reports in collaboration with our CFO, providing insight into how the business is performing. Basically, you’ll be the backbone of our finance operations, with ownership across all core accounting processes:

• Daily & Weekly Ops: Oversee day-to-day bookkeeping and inbox management, coordinate with our Junior Finance Coordinator, reconcile the bank (AB & Inc), manage AP/AR, and drive our weekly payments cycle. You’ll ensure suppliers are paid on schedule and customers pay us. If a big client is late, you’re on it – sending a friendly nudge and keeping an eye on our cash flow.
• Monthly Close: Coordinate the entire closing schedule for both our Swedish and US entities – including reconciliations, posting accruals, TP invoicing, commissions, and royalty calculations, as well as double-checking that our revenues and expenses are spot on.
• Liquidity Planning: Prepare our weekly liquidity analysis, including a forward-looking assessment of incoming/outgoing cash. You’ll play a key role in helping the company plan for upcoming payments and maintain a healthy cash position.
• Tax & Compliance: Take charge of our tax calendar – that means VAT returns in Sweden, Poland, the UK, and Portugal, as well as keeping us compliant with sales tax in various US states. Deadlines don’t scare you; you meet them with time to spare.
• Payroll & Benefits: Coordinate payroll with external providers, expense reimbursements, and pension reporting. You’ll also maintain our inventory list of company assets like laptops and phones.
• Annual Closing & Audit: Own the operational side of our annual close and audit process. Act as point of contact with auditors, gather documentation, and support the CFO in preparing the Annual Report.
• Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with the CFO on forecasting and budgeting – giving input on what the latest numbers mean for our future. Partner with other teams (Sales, Operations, Creative) to make sure finance is supporting their needs – whether it’s setting up a new customer in the system, or providing cost info for a project.

Who you are

• You have 2+ years of experience in accounting or financial operations — ideally with exposure to international reporting (Sweden + US is a plus!).
• You’re comfortable owning accounting processes end to end and love organizing structure and systems – closing the books is second nature to you, and you have a knack for spotting when “something doesn’t look right” in the numbers.
• You have excellent attention to detail and aren’t afraid of a spreadsheet or ERP (we use Microsoft Navision).
• You’re used to handling multiple timelines and deliverables across jurisdictions, and you take deadlines seriously – when you say “it’ll be done by Monday,” we know it will (and done well).
• You communicate clearly and casually – in other words, you can distill financial lingo into plain English for the team.
• You’re curious, humble, and collaborative. You like being part of a tight team and don’t mind rolling up your sleeves.
