Senior Platform Engineer for DevX at reMarkable

We are now looking for a software engineer who can take ownership in the developer experience area as our new Senior Platform Engineer for DevX. In our Software department, we house engineers qualified in various disciplines including Go, Web, C++, C/Embedded developers, site reliability engineers and product security engineers. You can expect to focus on helping us shorten the time it takes to build and test our code across multiple platforms and targets.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Environment management, automation and CI/CD pipelines
• Securing uptime for the tools the team delivers, such as Google managed Prometheus, Grafana, Loki
• Identifying and solving challenges the engineers have in our software department across teams, creating actionable metrics via Grafana
• Evaluating tools, buy vs make decisions and managing a set of utilities on Kubernetes
• Developing portals, catalog platforms and plugins/CLIs
• Enhancing how we work with analytics in the development process, simplifying it and making it more automated in terms of things like pipelines and release cycles

We are looking for the following experience

You have experience with scripting and programming in Go, Python or similar programming languages. You have worked as a site reliability, DevOps, platform or software engineer in at least one established team, and somewhere down the line sparked an interest and passion for developer productivity that you would like to pursue and make the center of your career. In the world of DevX, the challenges are ever changing and there is always something that needs building or fine-tuning. As such, you have a particularly flexible and solution-oriented mindset. You also believe you have:

• Experience with Kubernetes
• Worked with Github Actions or similar CI platforms
• Experience with one or more cloud providers such as AWS, GCP and/or Cloudflare

Technologies/systems/tools used in the role

At reMarkable, you’ll work with a diverse technical landscape. We use GCP as our main cloud provider, with some AWS for CI and Azure for specific cases. We’re exploring Cloudflare to replace internal VPNs. Our backend, mainly written in Go, follows an event-driven architecture, operating mostly at a higher cloud stack level. We use Terraform, GitHub Actions, and Atlantis, with Kubernetes and VMs for select cases in both AWS and GCP. On the web side, we focus on React, Next.js, and are investing in WASM and cross-platform web tech.

What you will not be doing:

The DevX team will not be fixing tests and pipelines on behalf of others. You won’t be expected to only take “tickets” from development teams either. Instead you will rather focus on building something good and robust that teams will want to take into use.
