Embedded System Engineer for Glass 3D Printing

Salary Competitive

Join Nobula®: Pioneering the Future of Glass 3D Printing

Who are we?

Nobula® is an innovative additive manufacturing startup revolutionizing glass applications through our proprietary Direct Glass Laser Deposition (DGLD®) technique. Our cutting-edge technology features a laser-based glass 3D printer that uses thin glass filaments as feedstock. With a strong focus on sustainability, our vision is to expand the potential applications of glass 3D printing.

Why is this interesting?

Traditionally, glass fabrication has been expensive, time-consuming, and primarily suited for standardized mass production. However, there is a growing demand for customizable, fast, affordable, and sustainable glass production across various sectors, from life sciences to optics and photonics. Our goal is to enable glass foundries to be placed anywhere, from office desks and labs to production factories.

What have we accomplished?

We have successfully launched pilot projects with both top-tier industial and academical partners. Currently, we are engaged in over 20 active projects. We have also raised more than 55 million SEK in investments from prestigious organizations, including the European Innovation Council (EIC), VCs, business angels, KTH Holding, and the Sting incubator. Our team of 7 operates from an office and lab in central Stockholm, and we are now entering the next phase of scaling.

About the job

We are looking for a brave system engineer with skills in embedded systems, 3D printing and electronics to join our team. The role is interdisciplinary, blending programming with hardware and firmware development. Your responsibilities will include:

    • Leading development projects and communicating effectively both internally and externally.
    • Designing and improving subsystems of the glass 3D printer, focusing on hardware, firmware, and electronics, such as custom screens and embedded cameras.
    • Testing your solutions in real-time processes and implementing them into the device.

You will be part of a driven team of motivated and talented engineers, researchers, and scientists. As we are in a phase of rapid growth, it's the perfect time to join us and dare to dream big.

What we offer

  • Close collaboration with the founding team in central Stockholm.
  • An opportunity to shape your own work as an early member of a well-funded startup;

  • Equity options for early team members, depending on the role.
  • Access to a state-of-the-art AM lab in central Stockholm.
  • A competitive salary.

Required qualifications

  • Advanced skill in embedded systems and mechatronics;
  • Programming skill in C/C++/Python, experience in Linux/Makefile/Git;
  • At least 5 years of experience in industrial product development, preferably in AM;
  • Experience with modifying FDM printer firmware (RepRap, Marlin, Klipper, etc.);
  • GitHub administration;
  • Excellent execution, results-oriented;
  • Excellent English skills, written and spoken;
  • Knowledge of CAD;
  • Eligibility to work within the EU.

Skills that will make you stand out

  • Advanced degree in robotics, machine control engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience with embedded MCU programming.
  • Have written BSP for new chips or contributed codes to open-source projects.
  • Experience with Design For Manufacturing (DFM).
  • Algorithm engineering.
  • Able to produce high quality design and validation documentation.
  • Design PCB boards for manufacturing.
  • Experience in Computer Vision and Machine Learning, object detection and tracking.
  • High level AI user.
  • Able to use workshop machinery (CNC, mill, metal lathes, etc).
  • Experience in numerical simulations - material, mechanical, optical...

Nobula3D AB

3D printing is shaping the future of manufacturing. In 2020 about 2 million 3D printers were sold. They print plastics, metals, even ceramics, but none could print glass. However, the demand of complex glass products grows continuously in medical, optics, aerospace, solid state battery, art, jewelry, and other markets. Nobula® glass 3D printer allows complex 3D structures to be produced in glass. With our Direct Glass Laser Deposition (DGLD®) technology, 3D printing glass is as easy as printing plastic.
