Senior Investment Manager at Planetary Impact Ventures

Salary DKK 45,000 - DKK 50,000

At Planetary, we invest in companies aligned with our guiding principles. Companies with a focus on long-term solutions within planetary boundaries. We operate as an evergreen fund, investing patient capital within biodiversity, agriculture and food, and aim to provide a fair financial return. Our ambition is clear: To inspire and contribute to a restructuring of our economic systems, a redefinition of what value is, and a reconnection with nature and life on the planet.

Planetary Impact Ventures is a progressive venture fund investing in plant-centric food, agriculture, and biodiversity. Being an evergreen fund with no carried interest, we are paving the way for a new approach to early stage investing. We apply patient capital to entrepreneurs aiming to build businesses within planetary boundaries while creating fair returns for our limited partners.

We created the fund at the end of 2020 with 40m DKK assets under management, which has grown to 120m DKK in subsequent closings. We have a strong pipeline of both investors and investment opportunities, so we are looking for an investment manager to run investment processes from sourcing to reporting.

In this role, you will work closely with investment director Morten Koefoed and the investment committee.  In order to succeed in this role, you have a longing for a world in balance and want to help define that road. You have a strong drive to act and get work done. You are eager to find and work with companies that can make significant contributions to life within planetary boundaries while developing forward looking business models that are economically viable. You are able to identify solutions that actually work commercially and ecologically, are able to evaluate people, ideas and business models holistically.

You have strong interpersonal skills and are able to make other people shine. We are a small team so you are able to self-organize and work independently.

We are currently focusing on investing in agriculture and food, so experience or knowledge within these industries is a plus.

Role and Responsibilities

In this job you will be:

Sourcing and screening investments:

  • Successfully sourcing numerous investment opportunities within a reasonable train distance from Denmark, adhering to the fund’s geographical focus and commitment to low-emission operations.

  • Screening potential investments meticulously, ensuring alignment with our guiding principles, investment mandate, and robust analytical reasoning.

Performing due diligence and writing investment recommendations:

  • Conduct thorough due diligence on investment opportunities, assessing their alignment with our guiding principles, investment mandate, and proper reasoning.

  • Prepare detailed investment recommendations for the Investment Committee, highlighting key insights and strategic fit.

Portfolio management and board representation:

  • Represent Planetary Impact Ventures on the boards of portfolio companies, providing strategic guidance and ensuring alignment with our guiding principles and impact goals.

  • Actively collaborate with portfolio companies, supporting them in financial reporting, impact measurement, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives.

Holistic evaluation and strategic insight:

  • Leverage strong analytical skills to evaluate people, ideas, and business models holistically, identifying solutions that are both economically viable and ecologically sound.

  • Contribute to the development of forward-looking business models that promote sustainability and regeneration.

The ideal candidate has some of these traits and experiences:

(Note: We do not expect you to have all of these experiences.)

  • Experience from investing, consulting and/or senior level experiences from early-stage startups.

  • Strong interest and longing for sustainability and regeneration.

  • Strong analytical skills – especially financial, environment and writing skills.

  • Good interpersonal skills as you will meet and work with many people.

  • Thrive in a small team, exhibiting the ability to self-organize and work independently to find and manage investment opportunities.

  • Appreciate a flexible working environment where roles and responsibilities are changing as we grow.

Location

Our office is in Krogerup, 30 minutes north of Copenhagen. We are located at an organic farm next to Krogerup Højskole, Aarstiderne, and Kølster. The work is flexible, so a combination of in-office and remote work can be arranged.

Compensation

Salary and benefits: Planetary is still a young fund manager, and the salary is currently below market rates. We expect compensation to improve as the fund size increases over the coming years. The impact of the work is significantly above market rate.

Please apply before June 28th 2024. We will review applications and schedule interviews as we receive them.

Please send (a) motivational application, (b) a link to your Linkedin profile (or resume), and (c) a photo of a place that is meaningful to you.

Our guiding principles:

Stay humble: Seeking to understand and improve the conditions for life on the planet is a task of infinite complexity. Grounded by nature, we stay humble and sincere in everything we do.

Learn with nature: Inspiration in nature and its biological processes will guide our investments. We shall adapt ourselves to nature, rather than forcing nature to comply with us.

Perceive wealth holistically: True wealth is much more than money in the bank. We perceive wealth as well-being and harmony between humans, nature and the economy.

Trust patient capital: Real value takes time to manifest. We support long-term business models and real value creation over quick profit maximisation.

Build strong communities: Strong communities build resilience and awareness. We strive to create movement and stronger connections within the networks we grow with.

Advocate for change: Real change depends on systemic change. We dedicate ourselves to create real, tangible change and assume leadership towards a new paradigm.
