Would you like to help fight unequal access to information by spreading knowledge about democracy and human rights through high quality documentaries? THE WHY’s vision is to make informative, fact based documentaries available to everyone, everywhere. THE WHY now reaches more than 200 countries and territories with over 70 TV-broadcasters, local non-profit organizations and schools. We recently reached 25 million views on YouTube, and each of our films reaches an estimated average of 100 million viewers.

The Communications Intern will work directly with the Communications Coordinator, Outreach Coordinate and the Media Manager, supporting the implementation of the organization’s communication strategy, taking care of SoMe platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok), writing articles for THE WHY’s website and maintaining relationships with partners and film festivals. The work also includes some ad hoc administrative tasks.


Responsibilities

  • Communications: assisting in an innovative communications strategy across SoMe to increase online engagement between stakeholders and THE WHY.

  • Press relations: supporting and improving the press relations of THE WHY, writing articles and arranging interviews.

  • Outreach: liaising with broadcasters, non-profits and other relevant organizations.

  • Monitoring and Evaluation: collecting evidence of the impact of THE WHY’s work from partners and including this in the organization’s comms strategy.

  • YouTube campaign: organizing our monthly YouTube campaign, which involves liaising with filmmakers, delving into the monthly topic and communicating it across our SoMe platforms.

  • Researching funding opportunities for the organization.


Competences

  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable liaising with multiple people independently and proactively.

  • Experience and knowledge of SoMe.

  • Academic or working experience with journalism, communications and visual media is desirable.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Keeps up-to-date with international politics and current affairs related to human rights.

  • Good knowledge of documentary films and a strong interest in working in the industry.

  • Experience with excel, canvas, the adobe suite and other relevant programs is desirable.


Working at THE WHY Foundation

The internship takes place in central Copenhagen, at our offices in Gothersgade, situated above Cinemateket. The internship is on a voluntary basis and therefore is unpaid. However you will have the chance to be a part of an inspiring and creative work environment close to the film industry, with free lunch every day at the Cinemateket restaurant. Free coffee is supplied at the office. The working period is preferably full time, starting August 2024 and ending December 2024.
