Lead Software Engineer & Co-founder - Wearable Tech for Sustained Weight Loss Momentum

Salary Competitive
Equity To be negotiated

Hi there. We are dQmetrics, and we are looking for a software engineer who can lead our software development and take our app and cloud setup to the next level.

We are developing a novel wearable wristband that auto-tracks the calories eaten - without manual meal registration. The goal is to make lasting change possible for slightly obese individuals, by meeting them where they are and empowering them to fine-tune their eating habits - at a pace they can maintain in the long run. We have working prototypes, and we just finished our proof of technology where we showed that the concept works in laboratory settings, where the test persons are sitting still. Now we are working on getting ready for closed customer testing, where test persons will wear our prototype as a normal smartwatch in real world settings. To do this, we need your help to finalize the next version of our app, so we can collect data from our test persons via the app. There will also be initial front-end development involved, so the test persons can enter information and get back predictions of their calorie intake.

We are looking to raise our first investment round in the coming 3-6 months. When we raise our first round, we can offer equity and a salary that will be able to sustain you. In the mean time we expect the position to be part time with around 5- to 20-hours per week. During this period, you will start earning vested equity, but the position will be unpaid. We are quite flexible around the part time period and take your situation into account.

What’s in it for you?

  • Impactful Work: Contribute to breakthroughs in wearable technology that aim to revolutionize health monitoring and obesity. You're not just building a product; you're making a difference.

  • Continuous Growth: Engage with unique challenges at the technology frontier, integrating physical devices with digital platforms. Your work will directly influence how users interact with our wearable technology, making a tangible impact on their health and wellness journey.

  • Collaborative Culture: Thrive in a team that cares. Our environment is built on collaboration, mutual respect, and a shared passion for innovation.

  • Multidisciplinary Team: Being in the wearable space, you get to work at the intersection between Hardware, Software, Machine Learning and the Health Sciences.

About the role:

The first version of our app is 90-95% complete. It’s written in TypeScript and uses React Native with Expo. Your first step will be to finish the app, so we can collect data via the app. The next step will be to expand the app, so it’s also available on iOS. From there the next milestone will be to get the app ready for closed customer testing. This means that Basic UX will be implemented, and you will work closely with our Machine Learning engineer to implement the algorithm in a cloud setup, so calorie predictions can be delivered and shown to the user via the app.

About dQmetrics:

We’re an early-stage deep tech startup and we are passionate about developing the next generation of wearables. We believe, the wearables industry is just getting started, and that there is a huge market opportunity in moving away from traditional vital sign sensors and expand the range of sensors to unlock the secrets of the human body. Currently we are a team of two. We got the business background and the Machine Learning profile covered. Besides you, we are looking to onboard a hardware engineer.

Preferred skills:

  • Experience with app development end-to end

  • Experience with software integrations to hardware devices

  • Strong problem-solving skills and an analytical mindset

  • Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude

  • Works well in a team

Nice to have:

  • Familliarity with TypeScript and React Native is a plus

  • General knowledge about GitLab is a plus
