Would you like to work in an NGO that lets you see the direct impact of your work? We're looking for a new General Manager at HackYourFuture Denmark with experience managing a small team, leading with a strong vision, as well as a deep passion for the job market integration of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants facing difficult circumstances in Denmark.
HackYourFuture (HYF) is a non-profit organization that aims to train people with high potential, but limited opportunities (refugees, asylum seekers, and other disadvantaged groups), to become it-specialists and empower them by opening the doors to a very in-demand job market. We offer participants access to a free, 8-month long coding boot camp focused on front-end web development, as well as shorter courses in other technologies. The amazing mentors in our coding boot camp are IT-professional volunteers, who spend their free time teaching on Sundays. We are active in The Netherlands, Denmark and Belgium. HackYourFuture Denmark is organized as an association (forening) and we have a supporting board that takes part in strategic decisions.
Our organization started as a grassroots initiative and has since 2017 supported 200+ people in entering the Danish IT industry. Our graduates now work anywhere from small startups to international companies like LEGO, Mærsk, Novo Nordisk, Trustpilot, Workday, and Visma. We’re not a web developer factory, though - we celebrate the power of a strong learning community and making friends along the way. If this resonates with you - keep reading! :)
The position:
In this role, you will be responsible for the overall strategic direction, management and growth of the organization. You will build and work closely with a core team of roughly 5-6 people across Copenhagen & Aarhus and ensure that HackYourFuture continues to deliver great results for our participants. You will also be responsible for the financial management of the organisation and communication with the board of HackYourFuture as well as our partners and funders.
We're looking for someone who can see the big picture, while also having a strong hands-on mentality and an interest in leading a team of motivated individuals to work towards the goals of HackYourFuture: enabling high-end job opportunities for refugees, asylum seekers, and other disadvantaged groups whilst working towards a more inclusive tech industry.
We look for someone who is motivated and willing to learn and grow with us and who has a proven track record of 3+ years of relevant work experience in a management role. This is a full-time position based in our Copenhagen office, but there are plenty of opportunities also to work part-time from home and remotely.
As a small organization, HackYourFuture offers ample freedom for you to shape the role in a way that benefits both HYF and yourself.
🧠 Tasks:
Ensure that the organization operates efficiently and effectively.
Manage and support the core team, ensure that they are motivated, working towards the organization's goals, and are happy.
Design and revise the Vision, Mission & Values of the organization together with the team & board.
Ensure that HYF adjusts to market changes & challenges, and look for new opportunities for HYF to develop and better serve our target group.
End-responsible financial management, relationship with funders and the board.
Look for funding opportunities to ensure the organization remains financially stable.
Be the public-facing representative of HackYourFuture Denmark and build relationships with key stakeholders in the Danish IT Industry.
Being hands-on with whatever operational tasks (related to e.g. the boot camp course, workshop events, office management) are necessary at the moment.
Promote HackYourFuture at conferences, events and other forums to raise awareness of the organization and our mission, and build our network.
We’re a small team, which is why we expect everyone to assist in ad hoc tasks across all functions of the organization - fx. helping with writing up a report for a partner company or supporting the team in organizing a community event.
📑 Requirements:
You have 3+ years of relevant professional experience with a management role, as well as relevant life experience, or educational background. Expand on this in your motivational letter.
Living in Denmark, ideally in Copenhagen – relocation is not possible.
Full professional proficiency in English & Danish, written and spoken.
You're a great communicator and can talk to anyone - participants in difficult life situations, volunteers, municipality employees and hardcore tech nerds.
Working with people energizes you and building and managing relationships comes naturally to you.
Strong understanding of and commitment to the mission of HackYourFuture.
Hands-on mentality, creative problem-solving, not being afraid to take on tasks that are not in your exact job description.
Regularly being available on Sundays as that is when classes are being held. We compensate by having Fridays off!
You have a desire to work in an intercultural environment and a genuine interest in helping newcomers succeed in Denmark.
Experience working in a non-profit organization.
Most of our work takes place in GSuite, Slack, Trello, Basecamp, Zoom, Linkedin, and GitHub - you should be able to navigate at least a few of these with confidence and/or be willing to learn.
⭐️ Plus:
Knowledge of the Danish immigration & integration system, or experience working with refugees/migrants.
You have a good network in the Danish IT Industry.
Experience with management of volunteers.
Knowledge/interest in web development & technology in general.
🪴 What we offer:
Work that makes a tangible difference in people’s lives!
A lot of room for your own input and ideas. It will be up to you to determine what HYF will look like in the near future.
A nicely located office space on Holmen.
Lunch and coffee every day you are in the office.
An opportunity to build/grow your network within social entrepreneurship, humanitarian work, and tech.
A network of international peers at our sister organizations HYF Netherlands, HYF Belgium, CodeYourFuture (UK) & MigraCode (Spain).
A work laptop can be provided.
