Great stories deserve great sound. Nomono solves fundamental problems with thoughtful design and intelligent signal processing, providing exceptional audio quality in a seamless user experience. We create tools for great storytelling that inspire collaboration, new ideas, and immersive content. We make audio production straightforward, motivating, and exciting to let you focus on what really matters — telling great stories.
We have created a portable recording studio that offers high quality audio recording and processing, consisting of a compact and easy to use recording kit (microphones, recording unit, charging station) controlled with a mobile app. In addition, we have a web app we call our Cloud solution supplying the ecosystem for processing and editing the recordings (offered as a SaaS solution). Recordings automatically sync to the Cloud, and through machine learning users can clean out the sounds, remove background noise, etc.
We are growing fast, and are now on the look to grow our backend skills, which is why we are looking for a Backend Engineer to join our efforts.
As a Senior Backend Engineer at Nomono you will be joining Team Cloud working with 5 other colleagues and reporting to our CPO Sylvia. The team consists of two designers (UX and UI), two front-end engineers, a back-end/cloud engineer, and a Product Manager who is starting in August. We are now adding a Senior Cloud Engineer and a Senior Backend Engineer (this role) to the team.
You will be working mainly on our web app and play a critical role in helping us build a robust, scalable, and high-performing cloud service that provides great audio processing and editing for content creators. You will join a growing team of experienced software developers, designers, hardware engineers, and audio researchers.
We work with an agile work model, all teams are autonomous, but we make sure we are aligned overall and are looking to implement OKRs. We promote cross-functionality with overlapping roles and responsibilities. All our work is in English, so no Norwegian is needed.
We build our platform using modern tooling and frameworks. As a member of the team, you will contribute actively to software quality through thorough testing and code reviews. You will share knowledge of tools and technologies and recommend best practices. Instead of struggling with technical debt and outdated legacy code, your work should actively shape our products now and in the future.
You will contribute strongly to all aspects of our service: Backend design and architecture, working closely with our Cloud Engineer on cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and incident handling. Not a small responsibility, but you will have dedicated colleagues to share it with.
We believe in a small, dynamic, and lean organization. This puts a lot of pressure on only getting the top talents in every position. This position offers a unique opportunity for you to take part in our vision.

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated backend engineer who wants to be responsible for the backend of our product. We imagine you have an education in Computer Science or similar, followed by at least 3 years of experience working as a backend developer with strong knowledge of Python. You are excellent at communicating in English, and keen to work on-site at our office in either Trondheim or Oslo.
As a person, you are accurate and organized, with an entrepreneurial character making you self-driven and proactive. Ideally, you have startup experience, and know the importance of prioritizing your tasks, when there is a lot to do and few hands to carry the load. You are also curious and motivated to learn new technologies and tools when needed, happy to be hands-on and solution oriented, and driven by building great products!
Most of us work out of our office in Trondheim, as we believe the best culture and work emerge from real-world connections and interactions between people. However, your physical location is secondary to your passion for sound and delivering exceptional work. If we believe you’re a great fit with our team and culture, we’ll go far to get you onboard.
More specifically we imagine you fit the following:
3+ years of Backend developer experience (6+ years if you don't have a university degree)
Strong knowledge of Python and Django
Familiarity with Fast API and OpenFGA
Experience with monitoring tools such as Datadog, Prometheus or Opentracing
Familiarity with agile/scrum development and Git
Excellent communication skills in English
And if you can also check off some of the following, we think you will fit right in at Nomono:
BSc/MSc Degree in Computer Science or related technical field
Experience with one of the major 3 cloud providers (bonus points if this is AWS)
Familiarity with microservices/distributed systems design
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, cdk8s, and AWS CDK
Have a track record of pursuing self-directed or open-source side projects
Dedication to secure, scalable, and resilient systems
Are familiar with Atlassian tools for documentation and project management
Have an interest in audio products and sound
Startup experience
One of our greatest offerings is our Nomono culture and the passion of the team. Our team is very dedicated to making Nomono the best it can be, and we care about our company and each other.
We believe in great flexibility and context driven leadership. We don't have a vacation policy, since in today's world most people are connected wherever they go. So if you work better from home or from your summer house in Spain or have a long weekend, this is all accepted, as long as you clarify it with your team, deliver what you should, and don't put your team members in a bad position.
We work in a very trust-based way, where you decide how you work best, and you know best what this means for you. Everyone wants to do what is best for Nomono, so we care about the output of your work, and not how many hours you put in.
We offer
An opportunity to take part in an exciting startup journey
A chance of great responsibility and opportunity to influence our future product
A competitive salary and stock options program to take part in our future success (Final salary will be agreed depending on qualifications according to Tekna guidelines)
