Are you a skilled backend developer, passionate about the environment, who wants to help us build a solid data platform for solar plants and battery optimization?
Society is facing the biggest challenge in the history of mankind. The climate crisis calls for fast replacement of fossil fuels, and our ability to deploy more renewable energy is fundamental to meeting the 1.5-degree target.
Sunday Power’s mission is to accelerate the energy transition with smart renewable energy. Our ambition is to be one of the world’s most efficient companies in originating, deploying, and operating solar PV assets.
We are a small but dedicated team (currently 14 people) working out of our brand-new offices in central downtown Oslo. During the past two years, we have signed and deployed multiple solar plants across Norway, as well as developing technology that improves operational efficiency and provides customers with a data platform that lets them report on their sustainability impact.
Our tech team is hard at work on improving it, and we’re now looking for an additional Backend Engineer to round out the team.
As our new Backend Engineer, you will become an important part of our Tech team (currently 4 people, 2 nationalities), reporting to our CTO Håkon. We have both senior (Cognite, Schibsted, Spacemaker) and junior profiles (fresh out of university), all highly passionate about and driven by our mission and the impact we have created.
You will be working especially close with our CTO Håkon, but everyone on the team is happy to help and share their experience and expertise when needed. Your main responsibility will be developing our cloud and data engineering platform, but in addition, you will also be involved in planning our product strategy and finding new ways to make solar and other green energy solutions smarter and more profitable. Our very best ideas are yet to be had!
We're still a small team working closely together and believe that we'll find the best solution if everyone participates in researching the problem and designing the solution. We, therefore, work with more high-level long-term goals and define and prioritize our tasks accordingly to continuously focus on the most important tasks at hand. For the future (as we grow bigger) we will adapt our process as needed, leaning towards more agile ways of working.
All our work is in English with no Norwegian needed, and we are very open to internationals. That being said, we believe we can build the best culture if everyone works primarily from the office, so this is not a fully remote position - but we all work from other locations for a day or a week every now and then.
Your tasks will include (but not be limited to):
Integrating data from multiple sensors and third-party APIs into our cloud platform
Tasks related to data science, MLOps, and battery optimization
Figuring out what our users want, need, and should want
Help prepare our services for rolling out to new markets in Europe
Build our company and engineering culture
Our current tech stack:
Backend: Python, Databricks, GraphQL, Google Cloud
Frontend: Javascript, Typescript, React
We imagine that you have a couple of years of experience as a backend/full-stack developer, or data engineer. As a person, you are a team player with a passion for building great products, and not afraid to take ownership and drive some of our work. You are passionate about building a great product and creating real impact in the world.
In order to succeed in this role, we believe you match the following:
2+ years of experience developing back-end applications and a university degree where you were coding / alternatively 5+ years of experience
Experience with Python
Experience with at least one system language (C++/Java/Scala/Rust/C# etc.)
Like to work on tasks related to design, data science, and infrastructure
You are based in Oslo, or willing to move here from the EU (We cannot assist with or wait for visas for people located outside)
If you can check off one or more of the following as well, you might be a perfect fit:
Cloud experience (especially Google Cloud)
University degree in Computer Science or related field
Interest/experience in Open Source
Experience in data engineering
Industry experience in solar, power, renewables, prop-tech, or the real estate business
Startup experience
Experience with the rest of our tech stack

To sum it all up with this role we offer you:
