Why Medusa?

Medusa is the leading open source e-commerce platform for Javascript developers. It provides the foundational building blocks for tomorrow’s e-commerce infrastructure by combining an open and headless architecture with a strong developer experience.

So far, Medusa has managed to become one of the fastest-growing projects on GitHub. In less than a year, the project soared to +10,000 GitHub stars, +2,000 community members and +10,000 project starts. Companies - from global start-ups to larger enterprises - have adopted Medusa, with many already using it in production. In the Summer of 2022, Medusa closed an $8M seed round and is now looking to invest heavily in growing the team.

Medusa

🚀 Building the leading e-commerce platform for developers Our engine provides most of the same core functionality as Shopify out-of-the-box. At the same time, its open abstraction-based architecture enables customizations and easy maintenance as business needs evolve, making it a great fit for building custom and scalable solutions. We built Medusa to solve the hurdles we experienced first-hand as developers building with Shopify, Magento, and the likes. Instead of building hacky workarounds to accomplish custom setups, Medusa is meant to make it easy for developers to build custom commerce experiences. The project started in 2018 as a custom solution for [Tekla Fabrics](https://teklafabrics.com/). After seeing the solution's success in production, the engine was open sourced in the Summer of ‘21 where we received $1M in pre-seed funding from Seedcamp to support the project. Medusa is one of the world's fastest-growing open source projects and has become the most starred Javascript e-commerce platform on GitHub, surpassing established solutions such as WooCommerce and Magento. The solution is used in production globally and already supports webshops selling +$100m annually. In the Summer of 2022, Medusa went on to raise another $8M Seed-round from leading UK investors Dawn and LocalGlobe, along with a long list of strong tech angels (e.g. founders of Squarespace, Algolia, Netlify, Supabase, and many more).
