Hi there. We are dQmetrics, and we are looking for a ML engineer co-founder who can lead the development of our ML algorithm.  

We are developing a wearable wristband, which can track the daily calorie intake in food automatically - without requiring manual input registration by the user. The wristband collects detailed heat data on the energy which is used to digest and absorb food. Several auxiliary sensors are used to improve the calorie intake estimates. The combined sensor data will be used in the ML algorithm to predict the calorie intake.

We got a working prototype and we started collecting data. The initial data has been promishing and supports our initial assumptions. We started our proof of technology and expect to complete it in the coming 3 months. You will be working closely together with our hardware developer regarding the data structure and the sensor selection. The framework and language for the machine learning algorithm has not been chosen yet.

Tasks and responsibilities:

• Exploratory data analysis on the initial data

• Design tests for the proof of technology

• Design the data structure formats and manage data quality

• Design the first version of the ML algorithm

• Run tests for the proof of technology

• Support implementation of the algorithm in our app and cloud setup

• In general, lead the algorithm development

We’re an early-stage hardware startup and machine learning is a core component of our product. We are passionate about developing the next generation of wearables and believe there is a big market opportunity in becoming the best wearable for diet tracking and weight loss.

Today, we are two co-founders. We got the business background and the hardware development covered. Besides you, we are also looking to onboard a co-founder with a biology background, who can bring knowledge of the human body into the team.

Preferred skills:

• You have coded and trained neural networks from scratch

• You have a solid understanding of the full cycle of machine learning algorithms, from design and data structure to implementation and optimizations

• It's a plus if you have a strong mathematical foundation

• It's a plus if you have experience with sensor based time series data

• It's a plus if you have a biomedical background or similar

Timeline:

We are actively trying to raise our first 1 million. We expect to get it after 3-6 months at the latest. When we get it, we will be able to offer you a salary plus equity. It would be awesome if you could start on a small scale as soon as possible, but we are quite flexible and account for your situation until you can start full time.
