About our game

We are developing a prototype of a digital educational card and city builder game in a historical and mythological universe. The aim is to inspire learning of history and other subjects. The upcoming game is in pre production.

The player will be taking charge of a civilization that will go through history. Letting you experience what happened in the past according to historical records. Decisions making and dilemmas open for an engaging gameplay. While diplomacy, trade and wars are bound to start conflicts. This innovative game sees characters in cards moving combat on a grid format. The inspiration comes from: Magic, Civilizations, Age of Empires and Heroes.

We are an early stage startup that is disrupting the educational system and the game industry, by making edutainment games; (entertainment and education) all with a high impact! We are a full service solution for developing and educating in using games for learning.

Details

We are looking for a  didactic champion that can start as soon as possible but joining in 2022 is also possible.

You can work remotely, but you are also welcome in our office in Copenhagen or a blended mixture either in a part time or full time position. Internships are also possible. Our company is not funded yet so our employees are running on passion and creativity. Once the game is sold or the company is funded, payment will be distributed to team members as revenue share.


The position & Responsibilities

The tasks will be varied and you will have a lot of freedom in defining what you will do and identifying what needs to be done. You will assume a central function in the team.

We need you to move our card and civilization manager game play forward in terms of how it teaches both in a class room and for home usage.

Your main task is taking game ideas from concept to completion and infusing learning into them. From a game design angle you will help and consult on translating high level ideas into world class features, game mechanics and experiences. You will be an architect of the overall learning game experience. You will be working closely with the game designers and History Consultants to ensure that the overall vision and direction of the game are adhered to.


Your tasks will include such things as:

  • Under coordination of the Producer and Director, work with artists and programmers to make sure that the learning vision is fulfilled

  • Design learning material for teachers

  • Developer learning methods for our game

  • Design fun and immersive gameplay mechanics and meta-game features drive them from concept and documentation through prototyping, polish, and release

  • Create and maintains design- and didactic documentation that keep pace with the project's progress, and accurately conveys all necessary information to departments

  • Set educational goals and deliverables for the project and test their outcome

  • Proactively work to improve the product on a regular basis (e.g. propose improvements to levels, features etc)

  • Gain deep understanding of our small but growing community

  • Analyze other relevant games and advice on take always from them


Requirements

  • Skills within didactics; We imagine that you are studying or have a degree in Learning and Experience Technology or Pedagogy/pædagogik or something similar

  • You can communicate well in English, Danish is a plus

  • An interest in games, technology history is a plus, but be have a department of Historians

  • Another plus is hands on experience with teaching

The University of Copenhagen aids us with consultants, an office space, workshops and much more. WHY ARE WE DOING THIS AND HOW? The academic input we receive elevates the learning potential for our users comes from students and professors. With gamification, the end result is a tool for students, teachers, and the general population. Our learning-lab is an open space for experimenting with new ideas to generate new study practices. The traditional digital game medium offers great potential for learning. Commonly, players gain proficiency in certain areas after playing games with a particular focus, language and communication skills are one example. Most games are very entertaining, and do teach players certain things, but the learning process is not structured. While many educational games focus on the teaching aspect, they don’t utilize the other affordances of the media as described. They are quite frankly boring. Our mission is to make great games combining both worlds. The problem we solve is that people want to learn but they find conventional learning methods insufficient and disengaging. Also teachers have been stuck with old tools that cannot keep up with the modern student. But the publishing world and the market needs new products to sell to keep up with demand.
