Industrial designer – remote within Sweden

Salary Unpaid
Equity To be negotiated

Celora Studio is looking for an industrial designer to join us as a co-founder. Do you want to have fun, develop your skills, and think strategically as well as do hands-on work? Then this position is for you.

Celora Studio creates products that make it possible to customise the look of home electronics. Our first product is a fabric cover that enables you to change the colour of the Sonos One speaker.

Our vision is to make electronics something that adds beauty and personality to your home, rather than something you want to hide. And you should never have to throw electronics out just because you don’t like the look anymore. Instead, you buy a cover or replacement part from Celora Studio.

Your responsibilities

As an industrial designer and co-founder, you will be responsible for all the stages of our product design – from user studies to finding manufacturers and making sure they deliver top quality products.

At Celora Studio we like to make decisions based on user studies and data rather than our personal preferences. So it’s very important that you enjoy talking to potential customers and creating something they will love, rather than thinking about what would be the most fun to design.

Our current setup

We are currently two people and co-founders on the team, Hanna the Marketing Director, and Jacob the Managing Director. We’re friendly, inclusive, and interested in people and what makes them tick.

We don’t take out any salary from Celora Studio, and we have other jobs or studies on the side. Instead, we're working weekends and evenings to make this happen, and the same would be expected of you.

However, we do have 200 000 SEK for running costs and hiring freelancers for smaller tasks we can't do ourselves.

Location

Since we're dealing with physical products we'd like you to be located in Sweden, or at least in the EU. (Our manufacturing currently takes place in the EU.)

But if you live somewhere else, you're still welcome to drop us a line, as we will be looking for designers to collaborate with in the future.

How to apply

Please send us a link to your LinkedIn profile, and a brief description of why you think this position sounds interesting.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Kind regards

Hanna Larsson and Jacob Udenaes, Celora Studio

Working at
Celora Studio

Celora Studio is a start-up from Uppsala, Sweden, who designs, manufactures and sells sound-transparent speaker covers. So that you can show your personality, and design your home the way you like it. Soon we'll be launching Canvas – a speaker cover in a sound-transparent and eco-labelled fabric that allows you to change the color of Sonos One. Our next step is to create speaker covers for more Sonos products, and for other speaker ranges. Our vision is to make electronics something that adds beauty and personality to your home, rather than something you want to hide. And that you should never have to replace electronics just because you don’t like the look of it anymore. So how did we get here? First of all, we have a passion for entrepreneurship and wanted to build a company. A company with a sustainable business model, and where people can be happy and thrive. We also saw that small multi-room and smart speakers are becoming increasingly popular, but they mostly come in black, white and gray. Through qualitative studies we identified the need to change the look of these speakers, and realised it could be done through speaker covers. Since then we have also seen the need to personalise home electronics in general. We hope that being able to change the look of home electronics and applicances will increase their lifespan and reduce waste. This leads us to sustainability, which is an important aspect of what we do. We want to find ways that our business can contribute to the Agenda 2030 goals. Canvas for Sonos One is manufactured under fair working conditions in the EU, using fabric that’s certified according to EU-ecolabel and Indoor advantage gold. We also believe in diversity and fair working conditions at Celora Studio. We’re only two people in the team so far, but we’re diverse when it comes to age and ethnicity. We’re aware of our own biases, and strive to use unbiased and scientifically proven methods in everything from setting salaries to recruitment and promotions.
