Â
So, what are we looking for?Â
We want you to be a key player in a team that is building the product required to handle our rapid global growth. In other words, we are now looking for a Back-end Developer. Our multidisciplinary team combines design, frontend and backend engineering, quality assurance, and project management.Â
You’ll be part of Brella’s Product team, based in Helsinki HQ or the Jyväskylä office, or work fully remotely in Finland. We're also open to discuss about remote work outside of Finland. Brella has no bureaucracy, a flat organisation; your direct line manager will be the CTO. Also, there is a possibility for fully remote work. In your role, you’ll get an opportunity to build the next big thing for a $26 billion market that is growing steadily and nowadays also virtually: the event industry.
Why Brella & our product team?Â
The event industry is in the middle of a huge global transformation and Brella is in a great position to disrupt the market and come out as a big winner. Because of this change in the industry everyone (we, our clients, our competitors) keep learning from one month to another.
You’ll get a chance to work with a unique development project where you can truly see the impact of your work.
You get to be challenged daily to grow in a truly global team with one of the fastest-growing startups in Finland.
We have a very strong people-first culture. You'll have the opportunity to grow with (and into) your tasks in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. No strict hierarchy, flexible working hours & a great Brella team spirit!Â
Flexible working hours and great office facilities.Â

We offer remote work in Finland.
How would your daily work look like?Â
As a backend developer at Brella, you'll be involved in the product development process from start to finish, from building new features to developing our architecture. You'll enjoy a high level of ownership of the features you work on.
Creating a world-class product from research to implementation and operations.
Working together with PM, designers, back-end, and front-end devs to ship features into production.
Writing jsonapi.org compliant REST APIs with Ruby on Rails, and testing them with RSpec request specs.
You will be working with: Ruby on Rails, GCP, Rspec, Postgres, Redis, Github and occasionally maintaining our CI/CD pipeline.
Work in short development cycles in agile fashion. We deploy immediately when the feature is ready.
What kind of back-end developer are you?Â
You have hands-on expertise in Ruby, preferably using Ruby on Rails, for 1-5+ years.
You have good communication skills and the ability to discuss software design decisions.
You have excellent written and spoken English skills, meaning you can speak or write your thoughts out clearly. No Finnish language is required.
You understand the concept of lean product development.
You have a generalist attitude and good team skills.
You have hands-on experience of deploying and scaling Ruby applications on the cloud.
You understand how the basic services of a web-application work in union.
You are comfortable with and have a deep understanding of relational databases.
You like to build features so that they are fast, performant, and scalable.
You understand HTTP, REST APIs, and JSON.
You understand cloud computing, CI & CD and Test & Deployment automation. We use GCP.
You know that the best possible code you can write is simple, well tested, and open for change. The kind of code that is just easy to read and follow, and has no weird quirks.
You are comfortable with TDD/BDD and git - you understand why you write tests and what kind of benefits they give to the company as a whole - but you know that tests are written for you and your colleagues.
