We are looking for a Lead Backend Developer to develop the technical foundation of our career development platform. You would be joining an ambitious and high-performing team of professionals with experience from working in fast-growing startups in Europe, Africa, and the US.
Fuzu builds and operates a career development platform that helps people accelerate their growth through career guidance, learning, and inspirational content. We have teams located in Finland, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, and Ukraine. Our work has been recognised globally, and we have been nominated as one of the most promising growth companies in Africa and the Nordics.
Our product team currently comprises Head of Engineering, Head of Product, RoR/React developers and two product designers. Our technical stack is Ruby on Rails, React, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Python/Tensorflow.
What you will be doing in this role:
Develop our technical foundation, including APIs, algorithms, database architecture/queries, and AWS-based server infrastructure
Plan the application architecture, technical specifications, and sprint tasks together with technical product leadership
Coordinate tasks and support the work of 2-3 more junior developers together with Head of Engineering
What we are looking for:
5+ years of industry experience in a backend engineering role, with a mastery of at least one backend web technology (preferably RoR or Python)
Solid knowledge of backend development fundamentals. This includes API design, OO / functional design patterns, testing / CI, relational databases, and app performance optimisation.
Experience in maintaining or working with cloud server infrastructure (preferably AWS)
