Main Description:

 Until now we have worked with external consultants, lawyers and advisors on how best to manage our data and deal with compliance. However, moving forward we’ll like this aspect to be dealt with internally. This person will be skilled enough to work independently and through others on these matters.  

 We are now seeking a Senior Data Officer to provide some strategic direction for the governance and protection of both our internal data and that of our clients.

 You will need to have a solid technical foundation, able to understand concepts relating to data security and privacy, project/ programme management, IT and be able to communicate these across the business. We’re seeking someone that is hands-on and we will require someone that is going to do a lot of the practical implementations too. In return, we’re offering you the opportunity to develop into a group role supporting some of our other sister brands and developing a team to support you.

The data security landscape is constantly evolving and requires someone that is both up-to-date on what is happening, and also a great commercial thinker with strong ethics to be able to guide the business on where any potential risks and opportunities within the data landscape. For us, this is particularly pertinent as our businesses are focused specifically in the analysis, interpretation and handling of data for thousands of clients around the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement data privacy policies and procedures which comply with data protection and data security regulations.

  • Keep up-to-date with any developing security threats, reporting to the board on a regular basis any potential security risks that might arise from considered business strategies.

  • Respond to data protection queries across the organisation concerning both operational and strategic challenges.

  • Participate and lead data security and privacy workshops to educate the team on how to handle and manage the data within their respective businesses properly.

  • Minimise the risks of data loss and fraud.

  • Conduct investigations into any security breaches determining what went wrong and appropriately providing solutions on how to avoid repeated errors. 

  • Managing all activity relating to the GDPR and other relevant legislation in both the UK and Denmark.

  • Monitoring and testing controls relating to data protection and implementing programmes and projects which aim to mitigate risks.

 Key Deliverables:

  • Create a robust data strategy which GA can follow taking into account the various product lines, evolving client needs, ethics, cultural and societal views.

  • Provide guidance across the organisation on data governance, data standards, data quality and data lifecycle management. Ideally, you’ll also be able to suggest the most appropriate ways to exploit our data assets to create business value.

Requirements:

Essential

  • Degree in Computer Science, Law, or related field.

  • 5-years experience in a senior-level data role dealing with data protection and governance programmes.

  • Specialist qualifications within recognised data compliance and/ or security body

  • Evidence of thought leadership in this field and excellent communication skills

  • Process and project skills -- ideally demonstrable situations of evaluating, improving or implementing a data security or compliance management framework e.g. SOC2 or ISO27001

Desirable

  • Ideally worked within both startup and large organisations

  • Working knowledge of UK / EU Data Privacy Legislation (including GDPR, Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003).

  • Ability to speak multiple languages preferred particularly French, German, Russian or Mandarin.
