Hunome (Hunomics Ltd) helps humanity make sense of itself with a web-based tool and platform. We are a team of 10 with designers, product manager/owners, devs, marketing... We are a remote and diverse team (mostly in Finland) and with that we assist autonomy and alignment with our tools and methods. Our focus is global from day one with our B2C2B data-play platform. All in the team are working shareholders.

We are looking for a data scientist who will help us:

  • innovate new product dimensions with product management

  • propose means to discover the insights hidden in our data

  • help us make smarter decisions to deliver better products

  • ease decisions by analyzing company data

  • roadmap our technology evolution

  • formulate our data strategy development

  • deliver quality data outputs

Your main focus will be:

  • creating our data strategy

Responsibilities (What we expect you to do):

  • Designing features on a roadmap from simple smart data solutions to using machine learning techniques, NLP and more broadly AI with product, technology and design

  • Data mining using state-of-the-art methods as our data grows

  • Extending the company’s data with third party sources of information when relevant

  • Enhancing data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems

  • Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis

  • Doing ad-hoc analysis and presenting results in a clear manner

  • Develop company A/B testing framework and test models

  • Mine and analyze data from company databases to drive optimization and improvement of product development, marketing techniques and business strategies

  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques

  • Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets

  • Creating automated anomaly detection systems and constant tracking of its performance

  • Use predictive modeling to increase and optimize customer experiences, revenue generation, ad targeting and other business outcomes

  • Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes

  • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy

Requirements (What we expect you to have):

  • Strong problem solving skills with an emphasis on product innovation and then development

  • An innovative mindset to suggest new ways in which to add value to our members

  • Strategic interest to grow our technical capabilities on a roadmap

  • Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SLQ, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights

  • Experience working with and creating data architectures

  • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks

  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams

  • A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques

  • An ambition to make a difference in the world to how data analysis might help humanity make sense of itself

Your experience

  • We’re looking for someone with 5-7 years of experience manipulating data sets and building statistical models, has a Master’s or PHD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or another quantitative field, and is familiar with the following software/tools:


    • Querying databases and using statistical computer languages: R, Python, SLQ, etc.

    • Using web services: Redshift, S3, Spark, Azure (or similar), etc.

    • Creating and using advanced machine learning algorithms and statistics: regression, simulation, scenario analysis, modelling, clustering, decision trees, neural networks, etc.

    • Analyzing data from 3rd party providers: Google Analytics, Site Catalyst, Coremetrics, Adwords, Crimson Hexagon, Facebook Insights, etc.

    • Using distributed data/computing tools: Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Gurobi, MySQL, Neo4j etc.

    • Visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders using: Periscope, Business Objects, D3, ggplot, etc.

    • Understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests, etc.

    • Using common data science toolkits, such as R, Weka, NumPy, MatLab, etc. Excellence in at least one of these is highly desirable

    • Good scripting and programming skills for intergration with the application/platform (node.js, react)

Working conditions 

  • 20hrs per week on average

  • Remote team - mostly living in Helsinki, Finland

    • At the moment, we cannot be a sponsor of a work permit. If you wish to work in Finland, applicants should hold a work permit valid until (at least) late 2020.

  • We use English as our working language.

  • You gain direct ownership in the company if you join before the MVP or funding.

Other

We have a team who seek their daily bread from different sources and their future potential with Hunome.

 

Naturally, once we have successfully executed the MVP and growth towards our public launch (2020), then we seek funding and will pay salaries.

 

We come together as a team every six to eight weeks in weekend Playshops in Helsinki, and will do so again as the virus recedes, and otherwise use Slack, Trello and more to ensure we all stay informed and aligned.
