3D Artist/Animator (Contract/FT)

We are looking for a 3D Artist to join a tight-knit team of game developers working on an exciting series of rapid prototypes for PC and console. This is a full-time contractor role that is ideal for someone with a firm grasp of 3D modelling, unwrapping, rigging, and animation who wants to get a start in the games industry.


The right candidate is someone who works well in a collaborative shared office environment, can work reliably and independently to a brief, and can rapidly iterate on assets in response to feedback from the team and Art Director. Applications will be judged primarily on the strength of their portfolio and performance on a practical test task. 

Responsibilities:

– Creating rapid prototypes on a weekly basis based on design briefs and discussions with the Lead Programmer, Project Manager, and Art Director.  

– Working within the company’s existing workflows and pipelines to specified deadlines.

– Maintaining clear lines of communication with the Art Director and Project Manager regarding progress on tasks and to solicit regular feedback.

– Listening to feedback and rapidly iterating on assets to bring them in line with the Art Director’s requirements 

– Participating in weekly discussions and collaborative technical design sessions, including making suggestions that could improve existing processes or general game designs. 

– Staying up to date with current industry trends and software, and learning new applications and techniques. 

Requirements:

– Strong portfolio demonstrating both hard surface and organic 3D modelling. 

– High level of competence in your preferred 3D modelling program (3DS Max, Maya, Blender, Zbrush etc). 

– Ability to quickly unwrap models and maximise use of texture space. – Experience with Substance Painter and PBR texture workflows. 

– Good computer skills and experience with Google Drive, Trello, and similar Web-based tools. 

– Willing to learn new tools and workflows. 

– Applicant must have their own licenses to any software they will use and should have a laptop to work on.  

– Applicant must be available for a minimum of three full working days on-site in Belfast each week (Tue-Thu), with flexibility for remote work on Mondays and Fridays.

Desirable Criteria:

– Experience with the Unity 3D game engine and preparing assets for it.

– Firm grasp of working within performance constraints for games. 

– Firm grasp of animation for Unity. 

– Understanding of techniques such as triplanar mapping, tessellation, level of detail, inverse kinematics, and texture baking. 

– Experience with Photoshop or equivalent for 2D artwork. 

– Experience with Amplify Shader Editor, Substance Designer, or similar node-based art tools.
