At Capdesk we aim to modernise the way companies and investors manage their equity and communication. We’re one of the most promising FinTech startups in Europe. We’ve successfully built and commercialised our product and our funding outlook is great. We’re looking for a solid front-end developer who can join our team and help take us to the next level.
TEAM
We're 12 employees with offices in London and Copenhagen. Our founders are senior software engineers and passionate finance guys. You'd be part of product development in trendy Nørrebro, Copenhagen.
POSITION
We have an ambition to turn our shareholding platform into a world-class product and we need your skills to get there. You’ll be our specialist in HTML, CSS and UI JS (i.e. non-business logic). That means everything from complex app components to landing pages. Your understanding of web technologies will help us translate our designs into smooth, seductive experiences.
You’ll have the power and freedom to help shape the future of an amazing product in a way that’s only possible at companies this size.
RESPONSIBILITIES
– Design, back-end development and marketing will come to you with verbal requests, napkin sketches, low-fi digital wireframes or high-fidelity mockups. Your job is to decide how to best implement those ideas technically and help people clarify the task when scope is fuzzy.
– Make high-level decisions about how HTML, CSS and JS should fit together.
– Perform crossbrowser testing and bug fixing on desktop and mobile. We only support modern browsers which means less headaches for you.
– Maintain an orderly component library that others can understand.
– Stay on top of the latest front-end techniques and help us adopt them as necessary.
– In the near future you may lead a front-end team.
OUR IDEAL COLLEAGUE
– You have web app experience and you know how to build a scalable well-structured system.
– You’re so skilled at front-end we’ll barely have to review your code.
– You have an eye for visual consistency. If you had to implement something without a mockup from a designer, it would still look decent.
– You’re willing to work with AngularJS until we make the switch to a newer version or something different.
– You know your way around CSS preprocessors. We’ve been using Sass but you aren’t tied to it.
– You can optimise the hell out of a website (assets, animations, etc.).
– You can test the hell out of a web app.
– You know about on-page SEO optimisation and microdata.
– You have some CMS experience.
– You’re not looking to branch out into full-stack or design work. You have a solid passion for front-end.
– You know how to explain front-end constraints to other developers.
– You hate technical debt as much as anyone but you know when to be flexible about it.
– You like to keep things as simple as possible and avoid over-engineering.
– You’re not afraid of working and reworking through several iterations. We don’t always get things right the first time.
– You’re familiar with web accessibility.
– You’ve had a long-term job dedicated to crafting a product (as opposed to short-term agency or freelance gigs).
– You speak and write English fluently. Maybe Danish too.
THIS JOB MAY NOT BE FOR YOU IF…
– You’re not 100% sure if front-end is your thing.
– All you’ve ever done is CMS development at an agency. You know more about plugins than building something big from scratch.
– You’re a JS ninja who doesn’t care much about the quality of HTML and CSS. You’ve never read cssguidelin.es.
– You avoid tasks that feel below your level. Things like email templates, CMS pages, changing translation text, etc. We’re all Swiss Army knives around here.
WHAT WE OFFER
– Participation in a fast growing - and proven - international startup. This thing is taking off and you’ll get equity if you stick around.
– A competitive salary not a lot of startups can offer: 35-50.000DKK depending on experience.
– A little extra vacation time. Just because.
– A young and informal work environment but no hipsters unfortunately (we do have hipster beer though).
– Good work/life balance. Some of us have several kids.
– Being part of an experienced team of software developers who actually understand you.
– Work with a designer who’s willing to make reasonable design concessions in order to make your code simpler.
– A bright, comfortable office in a great location (https://schillerhuset.dk). When it’s sunny we eat in the garden.
– Nice lunch, good coffee and a well-stocked fridge.
GET IN TOUCH
Send your application through the Hub.
What we hope to see in your application:
– An up-to-date CV.
– A few paragraphs about yourself, why you fit the position and why you’re interested in us specifically. Please say something human and non-generic.
– Some code samples. If you send collaborative projects, please detail exactly which parts you were personally responsible for. Otherwise we can’t judge your skills. Hobby projects are fine if they prove something about you.
– Any interesting references. We wouldn’t mind talking to some people you’ve worked with in the past.
WHAT’S NEXT
– We need to recruit immediately. We’ll be interviewing throughout May/June.
– We’ll probably ask you to perform a front-end test to get to know you better. If you’re hesitant about spending time on that, please be up-front about it and we’ll work something out.
We look forward to hearing from you.
