We're looking for an ambitious and entrepreneurial data engineer / systems hacker / CTO to join us in building a collaborative analytics platform for Ethereum and the decentralised economy. You will join a small team of engineers who are super passionate about data science and blockchain (sorry for the buzzword bingo). We're a pre-money startup so you’ll have the chance to own a share of the company and will help us shape the culture and the product going forward.

Beneath has been building an Ethereum analytics platform for almost a year and has had fantastic interest from developers, investors and users in the blockchain space. For example, check out our first public report published in partnership with MakerDAO: https://medium.com/makerdao/dai-in-numbers-2710d8a5633a. We are now racing toward our next milestone, which is providing a toolkit that data scientists can use to build and share insights on top of our platform. Our ambition is to foster a whole new community around blockchain data science and we already have the first customers lined up!

About you

• You truly care about building beautiful and solid software systems
• You have experience with terabyte-scale modern data processing systems 
• You’re familiar with event sourcing and unified batch and stream data processing (known as “Kappa architecture”)
• You’re enthusiastic about decentralisation and the potential of blockchain
• You take responsibility, like giving good feedback and want a fun workplace

Bonus points if you want to be sworn in with your hand on Designing Data-Intensive Applications to the tune of the latest content from the Data Engineering Podcast.

Things you could do

Given the early stage of Beneath, you will have a big say in defining your duties. Here’s some things you would probably do:

• Help invent and develop a whole new analytics paradigm suitable for blockchain data
• Build out and scale our data systems, which are currently written in Python and based on Kubernetes and the Google Cloud Analytics stack (Pubsub, BigQuery, Dataflow)
• Work together with data scientists to help them build awesome and scalable analytics
• Evangelize about the possibilities and difficulties found in blockchain data
• Recruit, train and inspire new engineers in the future
