Scale Capital has during the past decade made 20 investments and 9 exits. They now operate from their fund III, a newly launched €70M fund. Their team has a varied pool of experience that allows them to advise on hands-on technology matters as well as management challenges.
Their ticket size is between €1-4M. During follow-on rounds the total investment allocation per company can go up to €8M. They aim for a 10-20% ownership share and prefer to be the lead investor on the seed stage and co-lead on Series A rounds. But all vehicles/structures are possible.
They are an engaged, active partner that brings more than just capital; they bring internationalization know-how, differentiated domain knowledge, and access to stakeholders. They see great value in ensuring mutual compatibility and securing alignment by working with the founder team for three months or more before investing. They call this their "kissing period".
They have a soft spot for scalable go-to-market strategies and hardworking teams, which they are able to conduct an honest dialogue with. They believe great investing comes down to relationships rather than transactions, which helps them form strong and lasting partnerships with their companies and collaborators.
Be sharp, specific and honest when it comes to defining the originality of idea, business model and target customers. They prefer short pitch decks that include a "biggest risk" slide and precise market estimations rather than guesses. Scale Capital invests in companies with a strong proof of business model, preferably +€50K MRR and more than 10% MoM growth rate.
