Novo Seeds is a branch of Novo A/S which was established in 1999. Novo A/S oversees, invests and manages the assets of the Novo Nordisk Foundation valued at more than EUR 47 billion. Novo Seeds both facilitate pre-seed grants and seed investments.

How much do they invest?

The amount of investment is calculated in accordance with each specific project, but they typically fall within DKK 5 million and DKK 60 million. They provide pre-seed grants up to DKK 3.5 million. Unlike the pre-seed grant, their seed investments operate on commercial terms. Their investments are made in return for ownership.

How do they work?

Novo Seeds take an interactive approach when evaluating potential investments. They will often have several meetings with founder teams to estimate the best possible approach. They are active investors and support their portfolio companies even in the company creation phase. 

This makes a difference to them

The pre-seed grants are are awarded on behalf of the Novo Nordisk Foundation and given to researchers at universities or medical staff at hospitals with the aim to mature the project for at seed investments. The fund will invest in companies who are able to attract additional venture capital. Their aim is to build value through exits.
