Experience

Northern Light Capital (NLC) is an angel group founded in 2016 that will offer competence and capital to exciting Swedish start-ups. NLC founders have substantive accumulated experience in entrepreneurship and management of companies at different stages of growth from startups to mature enterprises. We provide active minority ownership in order to offer the best possible support to growing ventures and increase chances for success. Competence contribution can, for example, be professional board members, strategy development input, marketing and sales competence and interim management. NLC also offers expertise in patent and intellectual property rights.

How much do they invest?

The size of investments varies in accordance with the potential and risk associated with each project. NLC utilizes a multistep process of due diligence for each project, to estimate the right mode investment. They often aim to syndicate with other investors in early-stage investments. Apart from capital, the group also supports their companies with their collected expertise.

How do they work?

When NLCevaluates prospective investments the group first looks at the absolute criteria: International market potential, scalability, innovativeness, and the entrepreneurial team.

Key People

Sture Bergman – Founding Partner/Chairman

Sture has extensive experience in the media industry which is in the midst of a significant structural transformation driven by technological developments and changing consumer behavior. Since 7 years back Sture is the CEO of VK Media and has held senior positions in media companies for the last 20 years. Vice president of the Newspaper Publishers Association and board member of the global newspaper organization WAN-Ifra.

Jan Snygg – Founding Partner/Investment Committee Chair

Jan contributes 15 years of experience and competence from CEO, partner, and Investment Manager roles in larger venture capital funds and as a business angel making own investments in early start-up companies with a global focus. 

Mikael Nygren – Founding Partner/Object Committee Chair

Mikael has broad and deep knowledge of management, leadership, and governance as an experienced management consultant at the Leadership Centre, which he also co-founded. He was also instrumental in developing his family’s firm into a business group consisting of 13 companies before it was sold off to a US-based venture capital fund. In addition to his engagement in NLC and Ledarskapscentrum, Mikael works actively with strategy issues on a number of boards.
