Hi there! π
My name is Kenneth from the Engineering team, and Luis from the Data team. We've been pretty productive lately, and our business has taken off nicely, so we are looking for a Data Engineer in Finland. As I assume you're here to read about the specifics of the role, we’ll spare the chitchat for the interviews and get right into the fun stuff!
We are looking for a Data Engineer to bring their hands-on expertise to data infrastructure, ensuring data is stored, processed, and transferred to meet business needs. Weekly tasks include building and maintaining data pipelines and managing large datasets. You’ll also automate repetitive tasks, e.g., data cleaning and transformation and handling tasks of varying complexity. And many more, as we are growing and have a small team of data folks in the team. Oh, and just so you know, you can work remotely, in a hybrid model, and combine remote and on-site work at our lovely office in Espoo, Finland - you decide. π We hope to see you in our bi-weeklies on Tuesday!
Talking about the team, we are a diverse team of 50+ professionals across the globe from 20+ nationalities. We value transparency, communicating with trust and honesty, and ownership, embracing an "I'll figure it out" attitude. Teamwork is essential—we learn from and support one another, always striving to win as one. Our ambition drives us to think big, tackle challenges, and continuously improve. And through it all, we never forget the importance of laughter—taking our work seriously but not ourselves, staying friendly, open, and always ready for a good laugh.
Now, let's see what our current technologies and tools look like:
- Python and Bash for scripting.
- MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB for databases.
- PowerBI and Excel Sheets to create dashboards and data visualizations that communicate insights to internal and external stakeholders.
- Google Analytics and Hubspot from getting the data from different sources.
- Amazon Redshift (in the future) for data warehouses.
- Slack, Monday.com for internal communication and to manage work.
- other modern software - some of our colleagues use productivity-boosting tools such as GitHub's Copilot, CleanShot, Grammarly, ChatGPT, Loom, Raycast, and Alfred.
In this role, you will:
- design and develop interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI, and maintain and enhance existing Power BI reports and dashboards.
- use Python to fetch and aggregate data from multiple sources, e.g., into reports to be used internally and externally (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Google Analytics, Hubspot).
- assists in building and maintaining data pipelines, but you wouldn't necessarily be responsible for building entire ETL systems from scratch.
- write and optimize scripts and queries to insert and manage database data, supporting data integration workflows and operational needs.
- collaborate with various internal teams to understand their data needs and provide reliable data solutions.
- have an opportunity to work with data warehouse technologies in the future, such as Amazon Redshift, to manage and structure data for reporting and analytics.
- participate in customer support operations such as data entry or updating data.
You'll feel at home if you:
- hands-on experience in a similar Data Engineer role, ideally within a growth-stage company in the tech, product, or consultant company.
- have strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across different teams and people including the ability to explain technical details to non-technical folks.
- prefer a role where you can take your own initiative as a small team we are and enjoy working in an environment where constant improvement is required as the company keep growing.
- embrace transparency, ownership, teamwork, ambition, and laughter—the core values that guide us daily.
- have experience with programming languages such as Python and experience with databases such as MySQL, PostreSQL, and MongoDB.
- have experience with Power BI and Excel for data visualization.
- familiar with ETL pipelines, utilizing webhooks, integration across various systems, and aggregating data from multiple sources.
- communicate fluently in English.
- are already based in Finland.
It’s a bonus if:
- you have experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure) and are familiar with data warehouse tools (e.g., Amazon Redshift).
- you know data security and data governance best practices.
- have experience with other tools such as Google Analytics and HubSpot.
Why now is a great time to join?
- You impact on your role. You will join our small team of data folks. You will impact your role and our data best practices.
- We're on the move. With enough capital to fuel our growth, we're committed to finding only the best people to help build a company everyone enjoys working at.
- You're joining a team, not just a company. During our bi-weekly team meetings at the Espoo office, we celebrate, brainstorm, and occasionally indulge in Tuesday lunches. We organize kick-off events—our next kick-off will be in Malaga, Spain, in January 2025.
- The industry is evolving. Hotels and venues have been manually working on bookings for a long time. We're helping our customers – and the industry – to take meeting and event booking online. As our COO Mika keeps reminding us: If something can go online, it will go online.
- You're in good care. Our compensation package includes salary and stock options. In addition, we offer a flexible working model (remote, hybrid, or on-site based on your preference)), occupational healthcare care (Heltti), a working-from-home budget, a choice of tools, and company events that bring everyone together (all-hands, kick-off, sports events).
