Tech Lead, Roll-to-Roll Manufacturing

Salary Competitive

Job Title: Tech Lead, Roll-to-Roll Manufacturing

Company: 2D ApS

Job Description:

We are seeking a motivated and methodical engineer to join our team focused on the industrial scale-up of graphene and the development of its applications. As one of our first hires, you will play an influential role in shaping the processes of an emerging industry, driving the transition from lab-scale to pilot, and finally to industrial-scale production of a new material that will shape the future of society – much like plastics, aluminum, or steel have shaped our modern world.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of equipment and processes for our chemical vapor deposition (CVD) systems for graphene production from lab-scale to pilot-scale.

  • Utilize your knowledge and experience in web guiding and handling to design, build, operate, and optimize roll-to-roll systems for graphene production and transfer.

  • Innovate and develop methods and procedures for in-line quality control for industrial graphene production.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of production systems.

  • Oversee the setup and maintenance of production equipment and supporting infrastructure, ensuring high efficiency and reliability.

  • Conduct graphene characterization and ensure the quality and consistency of the produced graphene.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance production scalability and efficiency.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A ‘builder’ with a strong technical, detail-oriented, and methodical mindset and a natural inclination for building systems, processes, infrastructure, and/or equipment.

  • A PhD or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science, physics, or related fields; specialization in fields related to graphene or roll-to-roll processing is a plus.

  • Experience in one or more of the following:

    • CVD graphene growth, transfer, and applications development.

    • Designing, building, and operating web guiding, handling, lamination, and roll-to-roll systems.

    • Design, construction, and operation of high-temperature pilot-scale vacuum and/or inert atmosphere deposition systems.

    • CFD simulations of heated fluid flows in enclosed spaces and across complex geometries, and CAD design of structures to withstand and direct such fluid flows.

    • Chemical vapor deposition of carbon-based materials, preferably graphene, and subsequent characterization through Raman spectroscopy, optical microscopy, SEM, TEM, and surface free energy measurements.

    • Proficiency in data analysis, a meticulous and systematic approach to work, and a collaborative team player.

    • Flexibility and willingness to work longer hours when necessary, even on weekends, to achieve critical milestones.

    • Willingness to relocate to the greater Copenhagen area, Denmark, if not already residing there.

What We Offer:

  • Potential to join a fast-paced startup as an early team member.

  • Collaborative and interdisciplinary work setting, fostering meaningful partnerships with international experts.

  • Continuous learning and professional development opportunities to expand your knowledge and expertise.

  • A key role in driving the development and implementation of advanced technologies.

  • Active contribution towards building a sustainable future and addressing global challenges.

  • An inclusive and diverse organizational culture, promoting equal opportunities and embracing individual differences.

  • Substantial influence in shaping strategic decisions and project direction.

  • The opportunity to leave a lasting impact on society, shaping processes that will define how a new ‘aluminum’ will be produced industrially in future generations.

If you tick most, if not all, of the above boxes and are genuinely excited by the prospect of joining an extraordinary startup contributing to the green transition, we encourage you to apply. Your compensation will be determined individually, considering factors such as your job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience. You may also qualify for long-term incentives, including company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards. Additionally, you may receive discretionary bonuses and can have the opportunity to purchase additional stock at a discount through the Employee Stock Purchase Plan.

Application Deadline: 01/10/2024
