Industrial Postdoc Position in Danish Medtech Startup

MedicQuant, a startup based in Aarhus, is developing in vitro diagnostic medical devices with a vision to become the leading company in drug quantification at point of care – helping patients and clinicians around the world. Right now, you have a unique opportunity to become part of our exciting journey towards building a scalable business and make an impact in healthcare. We are currently seeking the right candidate to be part of the core team to help drive the assay development of our technology platform.

This is a 1-year time limited position in collaboration with The Gothelf Lab, at the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center at Aarhus University, co-financed by Innovation Fund Denmark.


What will you be doing:

In your day-to-day operations, you will key in the research and development activities of our unique assay technology, which is incorporated into plastic-based consumables and a medical device. You will be in charge of independent projects, providing management with input relevant to strategic decisions and working with third parties on the development.


Responsibilities & key tasks:

  • Spearhead the development of our lateral flow concept, focusing on exploratory work related to automation, additives, and stability.

  • Investigate and innovate new concepts aimed at enhancing overall performance.

  • Development of test protocols adhering to international guidelines such as CLSI.

  • Develop protocols for deposition and stability testing, which can be audited over time.

  • Identify opportunities for outsourcing production.

  • Foster effective collaborations with external partners and manage these relationships.

  • Maintain close communication with management, preparing decision-making materials for both stakeholders and team members.


What we are looking for:

We are looking for a proactive and self-motivated individual who takes initiative and is able to drive projects forward independently. The role will have a strong emphasis on research and development within lateral flow assays from early concepting and prototyping, to design and manufacturing.


Preferred competences are:

  • A PhD degree obtained within the last 5 years in natural sciences or related fields preferably with a focus on lateral flow, assay development, stability, performance of In Vitro diagnostics or similar.

  • 2+ years of experience as a postdoc, product developer, R&D scientist, or a similar role ideally within assay development such as lateral flow assays, ELISA, biochemistry or similar would be advantageous.

  • A strong desire to be part of a startup journey and contribute to its success. Ability to take responsibility for your work and drive your own projects.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, adapt quickly to new challenges, and acquire new skills as needed.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to troubleshooting.

  • Knowledge within medical devices, in vitro diagnostics and ISO13485.

  • Familiarity with requirements for diagnostic assays, particularly CLSI, FDA and IVD-R regulations is a plus.
