As Mobile Developer you’ll be responsible for the foundation’s impact tech strategy and its implementation together with the Product Lead. Our main focus is currently on the We House program, which from a technological perspective entails developing an NFC-based identification and gamification system for the house members between the ages of 0 and 12 as well as their parents.

About We Foundation

We Foundation has a crazily ambitious vision: In 2050 there will be zero 15-29-year-olds without post-secondary education or who are experiencing prolonged unemployment in Finland. Why someone ends up at the verges of society while someone else doesn’t depends on a number of factors, but kids whose parents are themselves unemployed or uneducated are statistically at an increased risk to follow in their parents’ footsteps and to suffer from social exclusion already in their teens.

We want to break the generational cycle by building a We House – a tech-driven, ambitious and completely free-of-charge after-school community center for parents and kids between the ages of 0 and 12 – into one suburb and country at a time. We House is open from 10am until 8pm every day throughout the year, and offers fascinating, joyful and pedagogically intelligent activities across arts, science, tech and wellbeing for kids and parents alike.

About the Lead Mobile Developer role

To enable gathering of visitor data and quantification of our reach and impact, you’ll design and develop an internal tool for the foundation employees as well as an external portal for those checking in to the house and completing a range of game-like activities during their stay. The member registration system is based on an NFC-bracelet, and a big part of your role will be studying user behavior and how the bracelet and the technology as a whole can be best integrated in the daily lives of our members. You’ll also work with some of the best game designers at Supercell to bring world-class game mechanics from MMOs and RPGs into the physical world.

Our goal is to build a high-quality, scalable and globally viable product that produces measurable, data-driven impact in the lives of the kids and families in the area. We are officially a foundation but effectively function like a startup - we need quick thinkers who can present their thoughts in a structured manner, convince the team and other stakeholders, and then swiftly move on to the real challenge of execution.

What you will do:

• The renovation of the space is in full speed and the house opens its doors in February 2020. Your first 1-2 weeks will be spent on getting to know the team and understanding both the current tech roadmap as well as familiarizing yourself with the ongoing projects.

• From your second month onwards, you’ll take ownership of both the internal member tracking tool and the external check-in portal. You’ll formulate hypotheses on the users’ needs, usability and value-add, and test them among the two user groups via interviews and observation. Interest in service design and behavioral analysis are must-haves.

• Once you get up to speed and depending on your interests, you’ll take on a bigger role in designing and developing our gamification realm – an engaging, challenging and pedagogically smart system for gathering points and badges that convert into physical world rewards within and outside the house. You’ll work together with some of the best game designers and producers from Supercell on creating something truly innovative and impactful.

For this role our must-haves are:

•  5+ years of experience in mobile development (android)

•  Experience or strong interest in mobile or console game design and development

•  Experience or strong interest in NFC/RFID/BLE technologies
