We are looking for a cooperative, outgoing, and solution-oriented IP Risk Manager with experience in ensuring freedom to operate and IP generation to support our mission of expanding the frontier of scientific and technological progress.

What will I be doing?

• Engaging with IQM engineers to grasp IQM technology concepts, digest the concepts into adequate search terms, conducting state-of-the-art and/or freedom-to-operate searches with commercial patent search databases, and assessing their relevancy to IQM technologies together with IQM engineers.
• Actively ensuring that IP risks are mitigated according to IQM IP risk process in IQM projects.
• Monitoring and analyzing third-party patents and coordinating together with IQM’s external patent attorneys potential third-party observations, oppositions, claim charting, and legal opinions.
• Searching and analyzing industry and/or market data to assess IQM’s patent portfolio’s value.
• Generating insightful reports from a wide range of information and data and the ability to present clear conclusions.
• Conducting preliminary prior art searches, patent landscape and freedom-to-operate studies.
• Organizing IP workshops and increasing IP awareness within the organization.
• In the IP team, you would also be part of evaluating the patentability of inventions, coordinating with IQM’s external patent attorneys drafting and prosecuting of patent applications.

What skills do I need?

• Strong scientific or engineering background in physics and/or electrical engineering and/or software or algorithm field.
• At least a couple of years of experience in patents or IP, for example, conducting patent searches, IP risk mitigation and ensuring freedom to operate.
• Experience in using patent search databases
• Good social skills and Intercultural awareness.
• Fluent English communication skills, both written and oral.
• Ability to work in a dynamic cross-border team.
• Ability to work in a solution- and business-oriented manner.
• Meticulous attention to detail and eager to learn new concepts.

What is seen as beneficial?

• Previous experience as a patent examiner or in-house patent engineer/IP Manager
• Knowledge in quantum computation and superconducting qubits and/or quantum algorithms
• Knowledge of SW patents and patenting of computer-implemented inventions
• Previous knowledge about Standard Essential Patents (SEPs)
• Experience in claim charting
• Qualification as a Finnish and/or European Patent Attorney or willingness to get the qualification with tutoring provided by a competent in-house European Patent Attorney
• Eager to learn new concepts
