Co-founder with biology background to wearables startup

Salary Competitive
Equity To be negotiated

Hi there. We are dQmetrics, and we are looking for a co-founder with a deep understanding of the human body and how biological differences affect the metabolism.

We are developing a wearable smart ring, which can be worn by the user like an ordinary finger-ring. The idea is to predict and track the food calorie intake automatically. The ring will collect detailed heat data on the energy expenditure, which is used to absorb and digest food. Compared to existing smart watches, we will add several new sensors, including a heat flux sensor and an infra-red temperature sensor to measure the skin temperature. The combined sensor data will be used in a machine learning algorithm to predict the calorie intake.

What’s in it for you?

  • Become co-founder in a deep tech startup with the potential to help millions of people lose weight

  • You get to play a central role in our team and lead our science efforts

  • You will help building an innovative product, that’s never been done before

  • You will become part of the vibrant and fast paced hardware incubator, Futurebox, which is located in DTU Science Park

  • You get to work with ambitious and experienced entrepreneurs

  • Lots of fun, beers and social events

About the role:

We need your knowledge of physiology to guide the sensor selection and how the algorithm can account for the biological differences from person to person – e.g. we need to account for chronic diseases, menstrual cycle phases, stress and the like. You will play an important role in the product development, and you will work closely together with our hardware developer and machine learning engineer.

Your tasks in the beginning would be to:

  • Map out the different biological factors, which can affect the metabolism

  • Run test studies where the prototype is mounted on live test persons

  • Map out how we can gain regulatory approval

About dQmetrics:

We’re an early-stage deep tech startup and we are passionate about developing the next generation of wearables. We believe, the wearables industry is just getting started, and that there is a huge market opportunity in expanding the range of available sensors to unlock the secrets of the human body. Currently we are two co-founders. We got the business background and the hardware developer covered. Besides you, we are looking to onboard a co-founder with a machine learning background. We just got our crude prototype ready to collect live testdata.

Preferred skills:

  • Deep understanding of the human physiology

  • Knowledge of metabolism and how the metabolism varies from person to person

Nice to have skills:

  • Some experience with clinical test studies is a plus

  • Some experience with biomechanics is a plus

Timeline:

In the beginning, the position will be part-time. We are quite flexible, and we will take your situation into account. In the coming 6-9 months we aim to raise money to offer you a full-time position with salary and equity on top. The salary will be able to sustain you, but it’s small for the first year.
