Your new company

Neurons Inc is founded and headed by Dr. Thomas Z. Ramsøy, who is considered one of the leading scholars and practitioners in applied neuroscience, neuromarketing, neuroeconomics, and consumer neuroscience. Neurons Inc combines neuroscience, eye tracking, and machine learning for unparallel prediction of brand memory. Since 2013 their client portfolio has included: Ikea, Facebook, Coca-Cola, Tesco, Spotify, and Twitter. Meaning that 70 % of their business is based in America.

Due to the pandemic Neurons Inc has experienced challenges in performing scientific studies with their clients worldwide and has therefore enabled their massive amount of data, to create a new innovative solution. Neurons Inc is in the process of disrupting their own ways of doing business and is aiming to empower 2/3 of their business to be run through online channels.

Your new role

As Neurons Inc Web Developer your main objective will be to develop and deploy standardized and ad hoc web projects on the NeuroOnline platform and help creating a robust pipeline, that focuses on automation, resilience, elasticity and globalization. The existing development of the platform is still young and consists of few team members, but to increase agility, momentum and secure the delivery of new features, Neurons Inc has decided to start the process of searching for a candidate, that might be you, to help the development in-house, building the backbone of a platform that fits together as a whole with other products.

In this process, you will be at the forefront, acting as the project core developer in a newly formed team, to focus on the platform, where you will take ownership of the inner workings and create scalable and maintainable code.

In your daily work, you will build the core structure of various web applications, where you will receive requirements and based on them you and your team will discuss the best course of action to handle and deliver the user-ready applications. The web applications you will create are representing online surveys, interacting with a wide variety of participants around the world, and are following well established neuroscience methods. You will work with the existing development teams and product owners to ideate software solutions, where you also will be a part of designing the server-side architecture.

Furthermore, your work tasks include the following:

  •  Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade software

  • Write technical documentation

  • Work with data scientists and analysts to improve software

  • Participating in the design and creation of scalable software

  • Writing clean, functioning code, that is reusable, maintainable and open for extension

  • Testing and fixing bugs or other coding issues

  • You know how to test your own code using, for example, unit tests

  • Verify the web applications look, feel and function properly in the browser (Desktop and Mobile)

  • Work with data structures and algorithms

  • Implement new requests, test and deploy to production

  • Closely communicate with team members on ideas and actual implementations

  • Maintain security and data protection settings

  • Use Work OS to keep track of tasks and easy communication with the team

What you’ll need to succeed

The right candidate has an AP, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or relevant field. Can work on part-time for 20 hours a week, but with the option to work more in busy periods and with an opportunity for full time. Furthermore, you have experience working in a global organization where English is the daily language.

On a technical level, you have solid experience from a similar role or back-end developer, with skills covering common stacks, described as the following:

  • Solid experience with JavaScript, HTML, CSS

  • Moderate experience with Linux and Google Cloud Platform, being fairly comfortable working with a terminal (e.g. Bash)

  • A good familiarity with Virtualization & Containerization, using servers for local development and cloud deployment (e.g. Kubernetes and Docker)

  • Daily user of Versioning Control, understanding and applying it (e.g. Git)

  • Object-oriented and Functional programming are a big advantage (can be applied in JavaScript and Java, for example)

  • Conceptual knowledge of how modules and building systems work, and can be used for the Web (e.g. ESM for ECMAScript, Snowpack, Rollup, Webpack, Babel, etc.)

  • Common understanding of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (N.B. pipeline to be created, preferable knowledge of Google Cloud Platform)

  • Understand testing and be ready to apply it (e.g. Jest, Mocha, Chai, Istanbul, Cypress, JUnit, Mockito, etc.). The main goal will be to manifest TDD and BDD.  (N.B. workflow to be created)

  • Conceptual knowledge of frameworks (e.g. Angular, React, NodeJS)

  • Familiarity with databases (e.g. MySQL, MongoDB)

  • Familiarity of jsPsych and/or SurveyJS is a good booster to hit the ground running

  • Open for the possibility of working with TypeScript

Most importantly we are looking for a razor-sharp developer, who enjoys making the right technical choices for the business and who can see the larger picture. Neurons Inc’s values that there is a personal match.

What you’ll get in return
