We are looking for an experienced automation engineer to work on our operation pipeline. In this role, you will solve novel automation problems and introduce impactful process innovations. Your voice will influence the future of the company and the state of an industry.
Build software to enable remote machine control.
Debug and optimize automated processes to minimize human intervention and maximize yield.
Implement new technologies at production facilities.
Lead the implementation of manufacturing execution controls (e.g. ERP/MES/SCADA).

You will initially be working with a senior operations expert, a junior developer, and a senior data scientist. However, we are currently also hiring for frontend and automation engineering positions.

We are currently in a very R&D-focused development phase. Our manufacturing site is located inside our office space and we run a very tight loop between idea and execution.

Clothing production in the fashion industry accounts for nearly 8% of global CO2 emissions. More than 35% of all garments are produced in China and around one third are discarded before they even reach a warehouse. The current industry causes unmeasurable human and environmental damage.
Our goal at Rodinia Generation is to change the industry of clothing production. Within this decade, we are going to make local and automated production of clothing the cheapest and most reliable manufactoring option for mid-to-high-end fashion brands. The manufactoring process we have developed uses no water, produces no chemical waste and beats all current manufactoring alternatives on speed and environmental footprint. We are building the worlds first competitive alternative to the industrial status-quo of the fashion industry.
Proof of competence (degree/certifications/experience/projects).
Minimum two years of professional experience within electromechanical- or mechatronic engineering, or other relevant field.
Proficiency in programming industrial equipment (e.g. PLCs, VFDs, HMI, local network communication).
A love of tinkering with machines, and strong attention to detail.
Experience with Linux, networking, storage and security.
Experience working in a team with structured planning and communications.
Additional information about the job
You will be starting many new projects, so we do not demand you use any specific technologies. In fact, we expect that you will own such decisions. However, we do obviously prefer popular technologies, frameworks, methodologies, etc. that are easier to hire new engineers into, and to reproduce and scale.
We are building an operations platform which lets a human operator plan and submit jobs to a manufacturing facility. A key part of the Automations Engineers function is develop the low-level software components that enables machine control. This interaction between hardware (printers, cameras, sensors, CNC cutters) and cloud architecture may require some special skills and willingness to learn.
An understanding of IT and networking will be very useful.
While the backend- and frontend engineers will be responsible for all adjacent software that does not directly touch the hardware, a genuine interest in software development that enables smooth cooperation with the developers is important.
We are currently in the R&D phase, putting all of our energy into building a solid operation with a single manufacturing site. Our next step is to reproduce and scale.
