CTO & co-founder to satellite defense startup

Salary Unpaid
Equity To be negotiated

Hi there,

I am the founder of Degeza, and I have just started my startup journey. Degeza is in the concept development stage and I aim to secure seed funding in the last quarter of 2021 – note that we are bootstrapping until then. Please apply to this position only if you:

  • Can commit to a full-time position for 6-9 months from the 1st of april 2021.

  • Are able to bootstrap throughout this period (that is, you are financially selfsufficient to support yourself throughout the 6-9 months).

Unique CTO & co-founder opportunity:

Are you passionate about creating and developing cutting edge drone and satellite technology? Do you want to play a key role in an early stage hi-tech startup? I am looking for a one-of-a-kind CTO to join me in transforming the current defense solutions for satellites through the use of High Altitude Drones.

For a long time the satellite domain has been regarded as being relatively safe, stable and reliant. With the introduction of anti-satellite weapons and an increasing number of space debrie, this reality is shifting.

In response to this Degeza is developing software for High Altitude Drones with the aim to match the functionality and dataflows of selected satellites. If a military customer, experience a temporary or permanent breakdown of a satellite, the drone can then replace the dataflows of the satellite and keep the customer’s mission critical systems online.

About Degeza:

I aim to onboard the full team of co-founders by the 1st of April this year. The product is still in the early part of the concept development stage, and the next step is to get ready to engage with potential customers and assess their interest in using and paying for the product. I am yet to talk with actual customers, but I have seen military customers making substantial million dollar investments in improved resilience and situational awareness products for the satellite domain.

Based on the feedback from the customers, we will have a solid foundation for securing initial seed funding during the summer/autumn of 2021 – which we can use to start actual development in the 4th quarter of 2021.

About the role:

  • At first, the primary task will be to break down and identify the needed technological steps in order to develop the end-to-end product.

  • Following the technology breakdown, a big part of the job will be to engage with key stakeholders such as potential customers and suppliers

  • You will lead and be overall responsible for the tech architecture and the development roadmap.

  • I aim to minimize the hardware development in the initial product offering – in order to reduce risk, complexity and costs. It is not essential that you have experience with hardware development, but it is a plus if you have some experience with interfaces or integrations which connects software and hardware components.

  • I expect you to do some hands-on coding to progress development and on a slightly longer-term hire and lead a team of developers.

Who you are:

  • You problably have a background in computer science, engineering, physics or a similar topic.

  • It is essential that you have a really solid understanding of the full cycle of software development, from design through to implementation and operations.

  • It is a big plus if you are skilled in explaining and presenting technical analyses and concepts to a broad technical and non-technical audience

  • It is a big plus if you have working experience with software development for beyond-line-of-sight drones.

  • Ideally you have experience with software development and/or hardware development for satellites.

  • Preferably you have expertise in C++, Java, Python.

  • Further, some systems engineering expertise is valued.

Your personality matters to me:

What matters most is the following 3 character traits:

1.       Can-do-attitude – you are proactive and have a growth mindset.

2.       Can commit to and maintain focus on complicated goals over extended periods of time.

3.       Good with other people, and encourages an open and trusting culture.

What we offer:

  • The position is unpaid, and thus equity based. I aim to secure funding as of Q4 2021.

  • A genuine partnership where you will have a critical role in shaping the development of the company and its products, as well as the industry.

  • You will be working with cutting edge technology and get access to the highly complex and regulated space and defense industry.

  • Leadership opportunity on a slightly longer term, as you will get the chance to build and lead a talented and ambitious team.

  • Possibility to engage in social activities and team-building outside of work. I value to go out for a beer and discuss non-work stuff. I hope you feel the same way.

Degeza

Degeza is developing a drone solution, which military customers can use to keep their mission critical systems online and operational in the face of a satellite breakdown. Previously, the satellite domain has been regarded as relatively safe, stable and reliant. In response to this we are developing software for High Altitude Drones with the aim to match the functionality and dataflows of selected satellites. Today we are extremely reliant on the smooth and continuing operation of satellites. Degeza is working hard to keep our critical societal systems safe in the years to come.
