About the position of Head of Development

As Head of Development you will be responsible of leading and managing a team of software developers, supporting them in building HowToRobot.com – an industry-leading platform. You will be responsible for leading a remote team developers to meet the company’s goals and objectives.

You will be a manager for the team, dedicated to mentor and grow the development team. We are looking for someone who can create and maintain a professional culture within the team, where individuals take ownership and seek to deliver excellence and quality.

You will be responsible for the quality and technical approach taken by team members, ensuring it is in line with the company strategy – and that projects are delivered on time and budget. This is a hands-on role where you will be expected to hold the overall technical knowledge around the platform.

Overall, the position holder will:

• Effectively manage relationships with internal business development team and internal development teams

• Take briefs accurately from the Business development team

• Train and lead, both formally and informally, members of the development team in technical skills

• Monitor the performance and ability of developers in the team

• Work alongside the Management Team to improve internal and external testing procedures (browser, functional and accessibility testing)

Specific duties include:

• Being the Lead Architect, Developer and mentor to the development teams whilst not being afraid doing some coding alongside them.

• Managing a remote team of developers

• Make sure that the technical strategy and procedures are aligned with the product roadmap

• Producing accurate and detailed technical documentation, i.e. wireframes and functional specs, user manuals

• Producing comprehensive and accurate estimates for work

• Testing work thoroughly against specifications and test plans to avoid errors and re-work

Overall, the Head of Development is expected to:

• Be a structured leader, able to translate complex technical concepts into easy to understand language for other internal teams.

• Be a strong leader, with a professional attitude and lead by example work ethic

• Be bright, highly self-motivated and driven

• Have the ability to multi-task and stay organised in a dynamic work environment

Technical skills required:

• Experience with Drupal CMS

• Knowledge of MS SQL Server

• Knowledge of source control systems (GIT)

• Knowledge about Docker

• Knowledge of Continuous Integration (GIT lab)

• Expert knowledge and practical experience with implementing CMS search capabilities using SOLR

• Knowledge about integration to Stripe payment
