Furniture Maker / Production Manager

Salary DKK 15,000 - DKK 20,000
Equity To be negotiated

If "building pianos in a modern way" sounds interesting to you and you have experience with building with wood and semi automated processes along with experience with CAD and CAM, this might be the role for you. We are looking for someone with a strong background with building furniture or similar, with a strong sense for aesthetics and manufacturing.

Keybird Instruments IVS is a start-up developing a lightweight acoustic piano. Many things are happening, so if you like all those small development steps in starting a company, that will be to your advantage. Our values are built upon transparency and striving for sustainability and reduction of complexity through innovation.

We started developing a lightweight acoustic piano, hoping to offer the world a more practical stringed keyboard instrument, without compromising on acoustic sound. Our mission is to bring diversity and accessibility to the world of acoustic pianos, since acoustic pianos as we know them today are very hard to transport and have been streamlined to sound more or less the same. We want to broaden the spectrum of possible sound characters and possibilities for musical expression. It will of course be beneficial for you (and us) if you have a connection with this mission, along with some experience and affinity with piano’s.

The design of our first model is in place, so now we will focus on developing the production and optimizing processes. You can play a major role in helping us reach the goal of offering the product for an affordable price while keeping the quality as good as possible, as well as help us develop new models and design for production.

Our production philosophy is built on a simple principle: using as much sheet material as possible which can be cut by CNC or laser. This means that experience with CAD and CAM will be of great help to you, both when building the product and for designing production aids. A fascination for automation and optimization of production processes should be firmly recognizable within yourself, and serve as an addition to your liking of building stuff with the tools at hand and the focus on getting stuff done, rather that staying in the theoretical dimension all the time. Building prototypes and designing processes as well as doing the same thing over and over again should not scare you at all. Doing the actual building work like operating the machines and doing assembly work will be a large part of your daily routine, with the possibility to grow towards more responsibility and management areas as the company grows and can attract more helpers.

Our ideal candidate:

  • is an ambitious and organised person, down to earth

  • has extensive experience with CAD and CAM

  • Is a do'er, pragmatic, with a very high drive to get things done

  • has experience with working with wood at high precision manufacturing

  • has affinity with music and pianos in particular

  • is good at multitasking

  • Wants to get "hands dirty" and has a more practical than theoretical mindset

  • has a strong tendency to create order rather than chaos

  • takes honor in fast and qualitative work

  • takes responsibility to get things done within an agreed time frame

  • likes innovation in general and is good at thinking out of the box

  • Is a good communicator (values open and uncomplicated interaction)

  • is fluent in English and preferably Danish as well

  • is flexible and eager to learn

Since we are a startup company, candidates willing to compromise on salary in favour of equity (co-ownership of the company) will be preferred. There is good potential to become a driving force within the company and that ambition should be present. Creating efficiency and structure out of chaos and showing the good example of reaching goals within agreed time frames, along with supplementing with extra time to reach those goals, should be a firmly embedded part of your work ethics, while still enjoying and spreading a positive attitude of seeing solutions rather than problems.

Working at
Keybird Instruments

Keybird Instruments is developing a lightweight acoustic piano to help piano enthusiasts play with their preferred sound (acoustic) with practicality and price comparable to that of digital pianos. Over 75% of piano players prefer an acoustic sound, yet most play digital because of price, size, and weight. We want to combine the best of both worlds. We can offer an acoustic piano that weighs only 43+ 16 kg, while only occupying half a square meter of valuable living space. It can be transported in normal cars. The first model has a slightly reduced amount of keys (just like many digital keyboards) having all the keys for pop and jazz but also most of the classical music for the first five years in music school. We thus have a strong focus on sound quality, rather than loudness, and we can reach the low price due to automated production in the worlds largest factory. We started this because we needed it for ourselves and saw the need for others. We asked all the piano enthusiasts we could reach and get the interest in our product confirmed. The huge market of acoustic and digital piano (we combine the benefits) is what keeps us on pace to provide an excellent alternative to digital piano's, which often get boring in the long run (We're just sharing our customer insights here ;)
